4D Minesweeper

4D Minesweeper

Game locked up
I set the dimension parameters to 5 to see what the board would look like, but upon starting the game locked up with the board all gray and the buttons unresponsive. Only way to leave was to click the x. Upon restarting (even after uninstalling/reinstalling) the game preserved the lockup state, so I wonder where the game stores its current state -- we need access to it if it bugs out.

Depending on your Operating System, the config file should be in %APPDATA%\Godot\app_userdata\4D Minesweeper\ (windows) or ~/.godot/app_userdata/4D Minesweeper/ (macOS and linux). You can just change the size in there or delete the config file. You might have to delete the save.sav file. Could you give me some information on your Operatingsystem and Hardware? Even on my Core i3-4010U laptop, a 5^4 board takes <2 seconds to load. Or give me a screenshot of the locked up version of the game.

You need to delete the files while the game is running, or else steam will just sync them to your computer again, and the game will load them again. Alternatively, you can disable file syncing before you start the game again, and enable it afterwards.

I am running Windows 10 Pro, i7-6950X, dual GTX 1080, 3440x1440, game runs in window anyway. I deleted the config and save files, and yet the game opens up in locked up state, as in the screenshot:

That is just in paused state, it should work just fine, if you press resume. Otherwise try the filesyncing thing I added above.

I wish, but it just launches like that and even the resume button is unresponsive. I wonder why the game remembers the settings even if I delete the AppData directory and uninstall. The game is no longer launching with the settings screen, it goes directly into the 'paused' state as in the screenshot.

Well, in steam go to the library, do a right click on 4D Minesweeper, go to Properties -> UPDATES and disable steam cloud synchronization (on the bottom). Then delete the files again, and start the game again.

Ah perfect, wasn't thinking that it would have cloud saves. Thank you for your quick replies!
