FS19 roller mod for changing ground texture
FS17 had a mod that was a Lizard Roller that let one change the ground texture to something else. Example: Weeds to dirt, grass to pavement, dirt to mud, etc. I searched the forum and found a posting saying to go to FS19 Mods site and do a search for Lizard or Roller. I found many rollers and even a Lizard Roller, but none of them (installed and tried several) do what I want to do. In fact, I can't tell what they do (nothing for me).

Does anyone know if there is a 19 version of that 17 mod that does what I described? If yes, can you tell me the exact name of it? There are dozens and dozens of roller mods. Thanks!

So far I have searched - & tested many options for the same thing, & so far none of them work like in FS17. It is unfortunate, since it was a great tool to lay down roads exactly as you desired. But, I believe that since the terraforming tools was added, that they figured that it would be good enough.
  • Unfortunately the painting tool is missing many of the textures that were part of FS17.
  • Trying to lay out long straight lines or edges can be very tricky with the current tools. Some solutions:
    • Cover the area you desire with whatever texture. Then return with the roller tool (reverts ground to default), to clean up the edges.
    • I often used a plow or a cultivator to lay out my roads. I try to get one of the correct width to make it one pass, or at most two passes. Then I carefully use the terraforming tools to lay out the final texture for the roadways - using the plowed path as a guide to follow. Finally touching up edges with grasses or whatever.
Either way it stop & save often to allow myself to revert back if I make some mistakes, such as tools switching to terraforming (& not painting). This sometimes renders large holes or hills that can be tricky to fix. So saving often can fix these issues without loosing a whole lot of time & effort.
If you go into the landscaping menu and change the shape to square its easy to lay down straight roads and tracks. This is the roller I use. https://fs19.net/farming-simulator-2019-mods/implements-and-tools/lizard-r5000-v-2-0/ It's a version of the one ported over from fs17 Just download. DONT unzip. Put into the mods file of the game and just activate when your loading the game up. 3 point linkage so it's much better than the standard one in the game.
Thanks guys. I'm going to bookmark this posting for future reference, so if anyone else has some more tricks that they use, please feel free to add them to this posting. Thanks!
Dozclarke, I do use the square shape for laying out roads & such, but with a mouse it is still easy to slip aside & mess up a section. Where with the old (FS17) roller, it was real easy to set the GPS course & lay out real good roads.

But yes I do use the roller to clean up edges of fields & roadways. And I also have the mod to plant grass, so that it doesn't look like a golf course.

I have tried that roller you listed, & others, but they all only revert the ground back to default. None of them will roll out the textures as the FS17 version used to do.

Merck. Just trying to help. Be great if you could pull a road section out and then click to make so it could be easier but it's not possible. You do end up messing around to get it looking exactly how you want it but that's just how it is. I like the ground editor more than the old roller anyway. I do apologise that my answer seemed to annoy you. Never mind. Won't bother again.
No your previous post didn't bother me at all. And I agree with you that the new terrraforming/texture tools are a great addition to the game. Just that I did also really like how the old roller was able to lay out section so nicely. I could drive the tractor pulling the roller & lay out dead straight roads, or make curves real nice & easy. So if anything I want it all :steammocking: lol

I do actually use a combination of the texture shapes & tools to lay out the areas that I want, then I often use the roller tool to clean up the edges. And the finally I like to go back over the areas with the smallest size terraforming tool to add random bushes, wet spots, flowers, etc..
Sometimes my OCD kicks in & I try to make it look as natural as possible.

And again absolutely no offense taken from any of your comments. I in fact appreciate all input, since it may likely give me new ideas for trying things a different way. :steamhappy:
