Do tires make a difference?
I've noticed in the customization of many tractors there are 2-3 different types of tired you can pick from. Do the ones for driving on the road make a difference in the way the vehicle handles or are they more of a cosmetic thing?

The tire style itself do not matter I think, But some have weights that do add traction for the vehicle to move through the soil and pull the implement.

Wheel weights affect tractions (caring heavy loads(. Narrow wheels affect (or rather dont) crop destruction. Duals help with compacting silo's.

Really wish they made it so wide tires and duals/tripples gave more traction.

No difference with the Nokians?

Tire higth sometimes makes difference when towing equipment.
If towed item is too low or too high on hitch it will effect how tractor operates.

Things I can verify
  • Narrow tires will not damage crops, but also seem to lower traction
  • Wheel weights will help with keeping the rear on the ground with loader work
  • Duals help in stability, preventing roll overs
  • Wide and dual tires appear to add more traction, though how much each adds I can't really tell.

What about communal tires? Does anybody know the pros/cons of those?

I'm guessing the communal tires are for the people in cults that like to farm. Or they might be for communist farmers? Maybe both? I don't know. :steamhappy:

I thought they just cost less but you had to share them with everybody.

In FS17, different tires were only cosmetical. In FS19, different tires actually have different effect.

What i've observed so far:
* narrow tires - least amount of grip, doesn't damage crop
* twin narrow tires - same amount of grip as normal tires, doesn't damage crop (note 01)
* normal tires - average grip
* wide tires - slightly better grip
* normal tires with rear wheel weights - average grip + better lift capacity with front loader
* wide tires with rear wheel weights - slightly better grip + better lift capacity with front loader
* twin rear wheels - better grip on rear wheels
* twin wheels (front and rear) - best grip for most tractors
* triple wheels (front and rear) - the best grip for the most powerful tractors
* crawler track on rear - grip wise, between wide tires and twin rear wheels (note 02)
* Nokian communal tires - haven't tested those

Note 01: twin narrow tires doesn't work on all tractors. E.g Case IH Optum series twin narrow tires will damage crop. It's a bug in game. For Case IH 7200 Pro series, twin narrow tires doesn't damage crop.

Note 02: i tested crawler track on pavemet, pulling very heavy load slightly uphill until tractor stopped completely (Case IH Magnum). Then i went and changed tires to twin wheels (front and rear). I was able to get the load moving without issues, showing that crawler track has considerably less grip than twin wheels.
2nd test was on the field, pulling Terminator sower slightly uphill. Max speed for it is 18 km/h and with crawler track, max i got was 12 km/h. Same tractor with twin wheels on the same spot (sowing slightly uphill), max speed was 14 km/h.

Thanks for the detailed info.

He just goes through some testing of different tires and weights.

Yet the comment was useful for me.

otherwise ( now this is revived ) added realisme for vehicles, is a mod that changes the need to think about tires, how ever you might wanna tweak the XML a bit, or else all road tires are useless out side of ... well roads
