Forwarder "hand" won't open

Hello-
I'm new to the game, late to the party, trying to make heads or tails of it. I've gone through the first five tutorials.

Now I'm on the sixth and final one, dealing with logging. I've got this forwarder in a mode in which I cannot open its "hand."

The "middle" control group (when you press the LMB and RMB) is greyed-out. Any hints would be appreciated.

Later: I tried restarting the tutorial, but now I am finding I can neither open nor close the "hand" (claw). The LMB - RMB control does not respond. I guess, for now, I'll avoid doing any forestry; but some kind of hint would still be nice.

I have not used forwarders in FS19 for a while. The LMB+RMB control should respond though, I've never seen that greyed out before. Does pressing 'G' again select another control group? Just grasping at straws.

Thanks for your reply; I tried the "G" key, that just switches to the stabilizer legs and back. For now I'm sticking with a "new farmer" game, and probably won't use a forwarder for a while. I'll let you know if I continue having this issue.

Later, I found I could open and close the claw by pressing LMB - RMB, but I had to press one first, and then the other, holding them down together.
