"Giants Software" Mods
I have been looking for a while and I cannot for the life of me find any information on why Giants Software releases free mods rather than release them in an update.

My biggest question is what is the drawback? Something normally prevents a developer from merging something they create into the main branch, but it is still released and supported it seems by them. I am going crazy trying to figure out why they release them as mods and not a part of a free update.

Can somebody please explain this to me, or give me any insight into why. I am new to the franchise and developer, but I absolutely love FS19.

On that note, I also thought it could pertain to licensing of the different brands. Brands don't always license their entire brand, but instead certain vehicles. They could be getting around that by releasing them as mods, but download size would also make some sense.

I mostly am wondering if there is any reason not to download all of them.
I don't see a reason as to why not download them. The licensing though sounds like the most reasonable answer for why vehicles and equipment from previous games are mods for the current. It's very likely that the license they have is just for that specific game for example. I'm sure if the license allowed them to put it into the current they would've without needing it to be a mod.

It's a similar case with SCS Software's games American Truck and Euro Truck Sims, where the trucks are licensed but often just for the game they're featured in and must be brought in as mods to the other game. Hell, for the longest time Mercades in Euro Truck was called Majestic until they got the license.

My guess is download size of the main game. Especially as pertains to consoles.

I recently got into ATS and that makes a ton of sense. Car Mechanic Simulator 2018 has plenty of DLC from different companies, but the licenses are only for a couple of cars generally so that the DLC can be sold at a reasonable price.

I definitely agree that licensing makes the most sense and would explain why there can't ever be an official statement on why they are doing this that I could find, less they risk lawsuit for officially supporting it as a company. I definitely downloaded them but was just waiting to check them just in case.

Thank you for your help @Vault.
