Will FS22 be worth it?
so i have every single title thats come out up to 19. snapped them each up not long after each title dropped over the years. i still remember when just getting the AI to do a square field without babysitting was a big leap in the game...

19 broke the camels back though and i have been mulling over hard whether 22 would just be the same nonsense in a different package. I love the genre but im seeing some disturbing trends in the game over time.

so what was done right...

-big changes to cut down on multi griefing.
-being able to make different farms for players
-being able to custom place buildings and modify terrain
-the ai only keeps getting better ( at least when you know how it started....shivers...)
-better vanilla maps
-added mechanics like logging
-etc, theres a large list of improvements that i have seen steadily build over time....

here is where my issue comes in and where it has been rawly displayed in 19....

-players in multi who dont have certain dlc cant join games that have it being hosted....this makes no sense, player mods are one thing and entirely understandable but a game that blocks players off from each other based on who does and doesnt who which dlc...
thats dumb...and not present it most games. players who do and dont own a games dlc are more than capable of playing in the same server in other games....the last time i looked this seemed to be due to the fact that 19 actually treated dlc as player made mods...:steamfacepalm:

-issue number 2 is 19 had massive gaps in the vanilla game that felt like the devs basically said ♥♥♥♥ it let the modding community fix it for us....i saw this a little in fs17 but the holes were gaping wide in 19 even now...the one that initially got me was the lowboy trailer. just the one...for the whole category....despite them adding increasingly larger tractors via the dlc...

-issue 3 was gameplay mechanics that were being pushed off as "new", only to get into them and realize they were utterly meaningless..cotton farming was supposed to be the "new" thing, except it turned out to be the most meaningless money sink with only bare bones equipment to do it with...really...one harvester....it was still more profitable to do silage over anything else, initially. i havent paid any attention to it now. horses were more of a pain in the butt than enjoyable...riding was fun, was cute, and oh its now work to get them to be worth anything, why cant the ai magically ride them for me....i got 10,000,000 acres to manage.

-lastly is an increasing trend in "empty" dlc. the john deer cotton stuff for example, a harvester i already have, a trailer that scarely does more than what i already have, or the Rottne DLC which is little more than a re-skin. DLC should change functionality of the game, with better tools, implements, or tractors to make things easier, faster, or more cost effective. Cosmetic DLC is fine but price it as such ya know.

so now im asking... if this is the direction the series is going, what possible reason is there to dump 50-60$ on a game that is increasingly relying no the modding community to fix all its problems? i feel like 19 was at most worth 30$ and fs22 probably will be the same...

fs22 has new features it is pushing...but then you will get in game and find them too meaningless and nothing but a money sink. at the end of the day you will be relying on the mods to fix everything thats busted...for 60$? on top of what will probably be a wash of empty DLC?

maybe its just not worth purchasing until a sale anymore...and i feel sad its the state of things with this game....i really did enjoy it.

Thats a lot to read my friend ......But lets be real here same ancient engine same ancient code .....I forsee no drastic improvements comming unless they build or use a new engine......they are beating a dead horse the last 2 remakes and the fanclub is letting them get away with it

I fully agree. I started with FS13. FS 15 was a huge leap IMO. 17 was a slight improvement, though they changed the physics, but it was not a better or worse change IMO, just different. 19 is the first FS game I regret buying. it looks identical to 17, has almost all the same stuff, and like you mentioned, all the new stuff is pointless/meaningless. The only thing 19 has added that I like is the ability to modify the terrain and/or place structures better. This is a nice to have, but was not worth the entire new game IMO. I do not plan to buy 22 either, and I do not feel like I will be missing out on much. I hope they prove me wrong, but I have low hopes. Developing a new game every two years is part of the problem, IMO. They do not give themselves enough time to actually make improvements.

Ive only just bought 19. That way I get a great, fully developed game with loads of content for cheap. By the time Ive exhausted FS19 FS22 will be in a similar state.

Do we talk about the same game? Mine still has a lot of issues. Many of them are long term issues (you can find them also in older FS games because they just recycle their entire game and sell it as "new") and/or marked as #wontfix by Giants. You will _never_ see a "fully developed game" from _that_ company.

I wont ever consider another one for the simple fact that i cant run it @ a decent framerate 60 fps to PC players is a slap in the face......and i know 60 fps is playable but when you get a 4* map and start adding mods and such now it has the ability to turn into a 30 fps game because giants engine is a piece of trash

i think it'd be worth it since watched some videos and they've done whole bunch of changes to it make it better like have the crops look like it's blowing in the breeze and added something else so yeah i think it would be worth buying since it looks better then they'er other games just watch the videos and find out how it looks

The trailers and marketing material always overhype what the game will acutally be, it has been this way for every game release I have seen. The original trailers and teasers for the new games are also not actually the game, they are CGI. Look closely at any of the trailers/teasers/videos you are talking about that look like a massive improvement from FS19. Somewhere, probably small, and if a video, maybe only for a few seconds, but you will find, somewhere, something along the lines of "Computer Generated", "Not in-game footage", Generated within the engine", etc. These all mean the video is better than the game will be. Even game engine footage can look way better, because they can render the perfect video, and it does not matter the FPS, as it can be smoothed out, and/or add a bunch of editing affects to make it appear better.

FS17 was the best this game can be IMO.
