Cannot Harvest
I think this may be an old bug, but I'm having trouble with harvesting or my AI worker harvesting a field. They will start to work, then not much later I get the message that they stopped unexpectedly. I go to see and there's no obstruction or anything. I hop in the Harvester and it seems to go fine, switch to hire AI. And same thing happens a few minutes later.

I exit out of my game, come back and try again. Same thing happens. But now when I hop in the Harvester, lower the Header and notice it's not cutting.

This all a bit annoying because I'm learning how to take care of cows and having to go back and forth is tiring.

I am on a player made map, Westbridge Hills, from the Modhub

Anyone have a workaround for this issue? Thanks for any advice.

I am assuming that the combines hopper is not filled??

What you describe can sometimes happen when your harvester attempts to cut a remnant of an earlier and different crop. Check that there are not two crops in close proximity. If there are, try a small cultivator to remove the offending items. If not, see Merck's post above.

Are your harvester big enough for that header it can somtimes be a problem when using a cornheader.
A thing out of the topic .I have read that people have problems with cows on that map.

Right, it is empty.

Okay previous crop was Barley. Which I actually harvested mostly myself because of that issue. Now the crops is Oats.

Well shoot, could that be my problem? I just straight seeded with oat seed after harvesting barley? I did not plow. That's such a noob thing seeing I'm a noob farmer:steamfacepalm:

not necessarily any failure to plough - although that would enable you to see any left over "standing crop" a little easier. It's more likely that neither your harvester or your seeder cleared away every last bit of the previous crop.

You don't need to plow every time, only like every 3 harvests. What you should be doing is cultivating the land before seeding, Some seeders have a cultivator built on them - Rapid A600 for example (IIRC).

When you sow a field, check the map and zoom right in , make sure the field is all one colour e.g. (Oats colour) and you don't have any of the previous still on that field.

Order:

Cultivate
Spread Fertilizer
Sow crop
Spread Fertilizer #2
Sit back and wait for harvest

Plow / Lime -- this only needs to be done every 3 harvests IIRC (I just wait until it tells me on the map - red for plow, cyan for lime)

Weeding - Keep an eye on the map, watch for the "pink" weeds spreading - if you catch it early you can use a weeder, however if you let it grow and it appears as flowers you need to spray them.

Harvesting...

Do you have the money to PAY the helper?
Is the hopper full and requires emptying ?
Wrong header for crop? e.g. corn / sunflowers is a different header to oats, barley
2 crop types close together (maybe you missed a little bit when you seeded it).
2 crop types - maybe you tapped the "Y" key by mistake mid sowing and changed the seed type.

Hope this helps.

I have played that map off and on and have found that to be a problem. Anytime you are using AI, they may stop unexpectedly. Havesting, seeding, plowing. Doesn't matter. I eventually gave up on the map because the fields are just too big manage by myself and have any kind of profit.

I have a feeling that it has something to do with field plane layer of the map, but I don't make maps and have never felt like fixing one. Mods yes. Maps... Not enough time.

But you can try plowing and then seeding and see what happens. I always loved Westbridge. I think it was a better representation of an "average" American farm than that crap they made for FS19. I just go back and play it on 17 now. Good luck and let us know what happens! :lunar2020thinkingtiger:

Thanks for the tips @Harag

I do use the Seeder that fertilizes, cultivates and seeds.

The farm came with one of those sprayers, so I used that as well.

I have weeds/lime turned off for now. Lime is new to me so I'm learning about that.

I'll pay more attention to plowing

Got plenty of cash, not using money mods, sold off some unecessary stuff when I settled on this map.

Thanks everyone, I'll try and fix this stuff:good:

I had the same issue and the only thing I had done was harvest one type of crop, empty it out fully and then some hours later try to harvest a different field with a different type of crop using the same harvester and same header.
Could not understand why the combine either wouldn't cut or would cut one row and then on turn around, stop cutting.
All I did to fix it was disconnect the header, reconnect it and then problem solved.
Still don't understand why but assume it's a bug and reconnecting the header cleared it.

That very well could be a problem, I remember playing that map back in FS 13, and I think it was just converted for newer FS versions, never fully remade fresh. Now if someone has the same issue on the converted Hagensteigt map then it could be a bug that came about from converting a map from one version to another.

Certain maps are not AI friendly either, could have objects buried under the terrain the harvester sees and stops for.
