You may have to turn down some settings. Specifically anti aliasing is another VRam hog.
I am sure anything that is equal to 1080 is fine for 4K and its current restrictions of 60FPS for 99.9% of monitors. the 1080:s was even capable of pushing FS17 to 11920x2160 without dropping below 50FPS. I am right now done with multiGPU in one/two or three cards after over 11 years(3xGTX280SC, 1xAMD 5970, 3xGTX480SC, 3xGTX580 Phantom 3GB, 2xGTX Titan SC, 2xGTX1080FTW) of multiple GPU on one card or multiple cards and the return of second card going south.
