So, there is a forklift, telehandler, wheelloader, front loaders, skid steer loader.... Maybe forgetting

But which one is best suited for what?

"what" - What is your need, decide what you like best...

They all pretty much do the same thing except the telehandler can pick up more logs at a time. All depends on how much power you need but lot of vehicular redundancy in Farming Simulator. I've always just used a tractor + front loader + attachment to do everything.

skid steer loader
- Tree cutting and removing tree stumps (it's really not much of a loader)

To add to what Tankfriend said
forklift
= Stacking objects (low-medium height)
= Loading stackable objects unto trailers
+ Cheap
+ Fits in small places
- One show pony this is all it does
- Can only do Pallets
- not good on rough terraian

telehandler
= Stacking objects (any height)
= Average cost
+ Doing other work at any meaningful height
+ Can move any moveable object
+ Can move heavier loads then the forklift
+ Has hitch
+ Ok on rough terrain
- Cannot cut trees
- Not as manuverable as the forklift
- Does most everything well but not as well as a dedicated machine.

wheelloader
+ Moving / loading large quantities of material fast (e.g. silage)
+ Can move large tree's
+ Can move multiple logs (well should be able to, current version physics makes it kinda wonky)
+ Largest Capacity
++ Really good on rough terrain
- Costly
- Cannot cut trees

front loaders
++ Doing any kind of work "on the fly", without having to change vehicle (e.g. loading bales unto trailers in the field)
- Requires you own a tractor with a frontloader attachment
- average to above average cost when tractor factored in.

skid steer loader
+ Cheap
+ Can do any work (logs cutting, moving, grinding), bales, pallets, grains/manure/woodchips...
- Small capacity
- No hitch

So in the end you have to ask yourself what your doing. just doing pallets at the store. the the forklift might be for you. Making tall stacks of bales at your farm. then the telehandler might be for you. Playing in chaff or manure. then the wheel loader might be for you. Want to do all of it without buying a dedicated machine. then the front loader might be for you if you already have a tractor. Not going to be doing much of any of it. but need to clean up after a couple animals and move a couple pallets the skid steer might be for you.
