>>> Is it going to need maintenance more often?
We don't know yet. Gamers are monitoring this and trying to determine if this is the case. Would be better if Giants just came out and told us already.
Here's a thread already about these questions:
What Happens If you don't repair equipment?
BUG: tractor weights get worn and need maintenance
PhasmaNL figured out his seeder was losing over 30% productivity/speed regardless of the good condition of the tractor pulling it. I later repeated his testing with a different seeder and a cultivator and had results that matched his findings: you lose approximately 1/3 (one third) of the equipment's rated operating speed even if the tractor pulling it is fully repaired.
Leading up to the release of FS19 Giants did an entire week of pre-release live streams where they disseminated information and answered questions. Several times throughout the week they stated that tractors (vehicles) would lose horsepower if you didn't keep up with regular maintenance. At one point the guy was adamant that tractors/vehicles were the only things that get a mechanical drawback for lack of maintenance and the rest was just cosmetic (worn paint, scratches, etc.). Well, that turned out to be wrong; in fact, it's been proven wrong several times. Yes, tractors do lose some horsepower over time, but there's clearly more to it than just that.
So, this has all caused a lot of head-scratching and questions. Since what was said in the livestream was wrong, what else did they fail to tell us, or were otherwise wrong about, regarding the new maintenance/repair game mechanic?
When a trailer gets worn down what impact does that have (aside from the visual graphics changes)? And a tractor weight getting worn out and needing maintenance??? That can't really be a thing, can it? Has to be some kind of bug. I understand they need to track usage hours (wear and tear) on all equipment so they can use that number to regulate how much visual "aging" to show on each piece of equipment. But there is more going on than just that.
I'd like to know what types of equipment suffer drawbacks from lack of maintenance and in what ways those drawbacks manifest themselves. I'd also like to know which types of equipment we can safely ignore repairs for (if any). On the vehicle status menu screen I think it would be better if for those items they showed the maintenance/repair % as "N/A" rather than show 37% (e.g.) if it's actually irrelivent.
Sorry my bad English, I'm an American.
I have found from personal experience that the square baler with 3/4 health drops your speed 2km/h. Normal work speed is 20 but I could only go 18. Not sure what that is in mph. The rate of decay is pretty fast too. Only 2 working hours at that stage.
They need to let us see what condition the tools are in instead of only finding out when we take it to the garage.
EDIT: I was wrong. It was 2 working days not 2 hours.
Now if the vehicles resale value also effects the performance of the vehicle/equipment then that’s another issue. For example Can a tractor with say 50hrs on it at 100% vehicle maintenance never match the performance of a brand new tractor (which would be realistic as engines do lose performance over time) that would suggest keeping a vehicle/equipment forever and hoping it stays the same isn’t a good idea.
But you probably made so much money using the tractor/vehicle that that difference is made up for manifold.
You probably made a massive profit if you sold it at the red and rebought it new.
After all, to have racked up so many working hours, it's very likely that you made money with the equipment.
