What's the use of auger wagons in single player?
If I understand correctly, auger wagons are basically tippers with a pipe to unload into other tippers. That sounds useful for multiplayer, but I haven't figured out how I'd effectively use them in single player. I can only drive one vehicle at a time so I might as well drive the tipper directly between harvester and silo. There also seems no real use to let AI vehicles use them. Even if they could be coupled behind harvesters without their own tank, auger wagons can't handle the crop types needed for tankless harvesters. AI can't drive alongside harvesters. The only case I can think of were auger wagons *might* be useful is to unload in a train that's parked near the field I'm harvesting, if auger wagon pipe can reach high enough (didn't test it yet).

So, am I missing something or are auger wagons pretty useless in single player?

Good question, I've wondered this myself too. As for train, you might need the ramp mod and put down a placeable ramp (if you can get it close enough).

I fill them with seeds and fertilizer and drive my seeders underneath them to refill them. I also use them to run seeds into the field easier, its easier to fill an auger wagon while fields are planted by workers than to fill the seeder and reallign them.

I was thinking you could use auger wagon attached to the expensive wood chipper, so you could unload it with a large trailer. But it didntr work. Seems like the green 21k liter trailer is the only thing that work behind the woodchipper.

On large fields far away from your farm, it can take too long to drive back and forth to effectively offload the field. Meanwhile, driving a large roadtrain into the field for offloading also tends to be a bad idea.
This is usually a problem on larger 4x maps or if you're using realistic mods, though. The conventional map size and driving distances tend to be too small/short.

Personally, I still use overloading wagons regularly even on normal maps. I just have the feeling that it's more comfortable that way. I can just park a truck with a large trailer at the edge of the field, regularly off-load the harvesters into it with a loading wagon, and only drive the crops away with the much faster truck when the trailer is full. While I'm gone, the auger wagon can serve as a buffer storage if necessary.

I guess it may not be realistic to drive a truck on a field, they may not handle the soft surface well. Perhaps that's where auger wagons would come to use, when the truck is parked somewhere alongside the road.

Yes, if you want to play realistically, you'd have to keep trucks away from the field unless it's one fitted with e.g. off-road tires etc. At that point, having an auger wagon is a very notable efficiency boost.

With large fields I would use a truck and auger wagon, since the big auger wagon holds more than a truck it doubles holding capacity, and when starting a field can park the truck on one end and wagon on the other.

In FS13 I had a mod with a special beet cart, needed to use it because the beet lifter unload conveyor was not tall enough to clear a truck trailer and would push down on it. The cart however was just low enough. Have yet to see one for FS 19.

same idea can apply to harvesting grain. on a tighter map, you will likely want to run the smaller harvesters, which will have clearance issuse trying to load into the larger trailers, and the auger wagons can work as an a middle man.

I n short, Couseplay is very useful when using auger waons trucks and combines.
But its not available yet.

As some others said, the best use is as giant portable seed/fertilizer recepticles. Fill your seeders and spreaders wherever you need to.

i thought auger was attached to rear of harvester and filled while harvesting to increase how much you can get before needing to unload without having to bring the truck with you.

Harvesters usually offload to the side, so it would be a little difficult to fit an auger and get the overloading process running with just the harvester...
Tribine has been working on a harvester just like your idea, though. So far, the current model is running with a ~35k liter auger wagon integrated into the design at the back.

if you had a line of auger wagons from your silo to the sell point you dont have to drive anywhere to sell your crops! would take a hundred wagons or more!!
