Tree/Stump removal + Landscaping = Frustration
Many times after removing a tree (not every tree, which is even more infuriating) I am unable to flatten or smooth the land it was on. The tree and its associated stump have been chainsawed up and ground out, but it's as though there's a (roughly) 9x9 collision box that hasn't been removed. It seems to happen more with non-conifers/hardwoods? I generally don't have issues with fir trees. Has anyone else experienced this? I've tried bumping the landscaping brush up to max strength, but nothing.

The collison point is still attached to a wedge after cutting down trees (Not Pine). The wedge is stuck in the dirt. Remove all shrubs and grass. You can use the roller to remove the shrubs and grass. The wedge must be cut with a stump grinder or a chain saw. If using a chain saw wedge must be cut in very small pieces. The other option is to plow the area of cultivate the area. Wedge and colision point is the issue. Run a tractor thru the area you will find the collision point. Same as running over a tree has been cut down.

Hint do not cut the trees close to the ground. About 3 or 4 ft above the ground. Then the wedge is visible. Then use a stump ginder on the tree stump and the wedge.

Hmm. I've tried plowing it; it plowed ok but I still couldn't manipulate the land after. And I can drive over it fine... I've picked up the wedge (the scarf the computer automatically cuts) because after the first one I'd thought the wedge had clipped through somewhere, so was vigilant about it thereafter. Seems to only affect the tall redwoods, I've noticed.

Going to repost what I posted in other threads about this:

Play with it on a single player test map first. Raising and lowering land can be dangerous. You can quickly burn threw several hundred thousand dollars before you even realize you spent it. Smoothing does not cost as much but does take repeated passes to get it right. Painting charge is per click. So if you click one grid 10 times, you will be charged 10 times to paint that 1 grid and only have 1 grid painted. If you click 10 grids 1 time you will be charged 10 times and have 10 grids painted.

However even with the terrain editor, its still not perfect to do all you need. First off, collisions. The game has allot of problems with collisions. however there is a nice place anywhere mod (link below). That allows you to bypass allot of the collision issues. (Be warned, this mod bypasses allot of the collision checks which can result in floating objects/buried objects(you could even mess up load and unload trigger spots) so avoid using near those locations). Secondly I use another mod the ground leveler placeables. They are cheap ways of geting land perfectly flat.

But combining the ingame land editor, the place anywhere and the ground level all togeather allows for geting pretty much all the stuff you want done. (with the exception of not allowing you to remove map objects) Below is a picture of the hilly area outside the BGA that I turned into my farm lot. Below that is a link to Kentucky Farmers Lets play with examples of how he used the Groundlevler and placeanywhere mod to make a nice little farm area. Below that is a link to the two mods. These are not my mods, These are not my hosted sites, These are not official mods, And the second one is a crappy guess which one is the download page.

The whole project started with making a road from the BGA to the Barn to mass sell siliage. So I cut down all the tree's and put the road in. But I was looking at it and decided with a bit of work I could make the field better too. I used the ground leveler mod to help keep the cost down while raising large chunks of land. Used the leveling tool in other places and finalized it all with the smooth tool. lots and lots of passes with the smooth too. Oh and I had to raise the ground up over the paved roads so I could plow over them. (a couple rocks too). I should add in. I am playing on a dedicated server that has been up since release. it is currently day 70 and we are playing hard mode.

To add to all of this a couple more tricks I have leared. The smooth tool is your best friend. use the right arrow key to increase the size to 20 (left arrow to decrease). and use the Rctrl+E to increase (Rctrl+Q to decrease) the strength to 3. now use the MMB (Middle Mouse Button) and you can quickly smooth out an area without to much risk of Fing stuff up. This method is also a bit cheaper then raising and lowering terrian.

When you want to raise terrain bring the strength to .1 and use a smaller size. Also start on the lowest section to raise to the highest. Cost is high so be careful

When you want to lower terrain bring the strength to .1 and use a smaller size. And start on the highest point working towards the lowest point. Cost is high so be careful

Finally pressing both the right mouse and left mouse button at the same time will level the terrain. While its better to use the ground level to flaten terrain (as the cost is 50x less) using the flatten terrain tool is perfect for creating sloped areas. I will use the flatten tool to create a sort of terrace (steps) going up or down a slope. and then once I got the slope on the hill I will then do several passes with the smooth tool creating the perfect slope. Cost is high so be careful

I have the place anywhere mod and it allows you to lower the ground around a tree stump or wedge you can't see. Makes it alot easier to remove it once you can see it. Plus I use the bruks all in one mod to remove the trees that are not useful for logging. I just never sell the woodchips. You can take a bruks and it will grind up all the trees you want non stop without unloading it into a trailer. I'm not grinding for the money. Just to remove the trees.

This might end up having to be my last resort; I'm trying to avoid using too many mods if I can help it. I also sell my trees, just because I find it more realistic. I'm pretty good with the terrain editor, but by fk is it annoying when it decides to be.
