Potatoes, beets and sugar cane; My silo has capacity, can I store it there?
Haven't purchased the equipment for potatoes, sugar beets and sugar cane, but I noticed my silo extensions also increase the storage capacity for these crops. Does that mean I can simply unload the trucks at the silo and store it like I do with all these other crops?

You can store 100,000 liters of potatos, sugar beets, and sugar cane with the extension. Keep in mind though that when talking those three crops, it's really not a lot. I recently harvested two fields of sugar beets, filled up the extension and 6 45,000 liter containers (IT Runner) with a tad more in a tipper.

I know they require quite a bit of space (just like straw does). But in FS17 you couldn't just store potato/beet/cane in the silo. That's why I was surprised to see my capacity increase with the extensions.

Now I know you can store them in your silo and load/unload as any other crop, I may invest in the equipment to farm potato/beet/cane :) Not sure which one to start with though. They all have their speciliazed equipment.

Start with potato and sugar beet contracts. I haven't seen any for sugar cane yet. You'll want them on the larger fields for the better payoff, even borrowing the equipment. This will give you a feel for most of the harvesters. Once you know what equipment you want, lease it to ease the cost of getting into the crop. You'll also need a planter, a conveyor belt set up to load tippers, at least one big tipper, and a large horsepower tractor or truck to pull the loaded tipper up hills. (I think all hills on my map go up.) With or without the silo extension, you'll have to dump a lot of crop on the ground.

I had another strategy in mind; I'm considering to start with beet since I already have a corn/sunflower planter which can also plant beet. I'd only need to buy the harvester. If I understand the maintenance system correctly, the harvester only requires maintenance when I'm using it. Any time it stands still parked because I don't need it, it's not costing me money. (Is that correct?) That'd mean in the long run buying is cheaper than leasing.

Since I don't want the hassle of picking up crop from the ground, and have never managed to have any success with a belt system (I may be doing it wrong but past efforts have been fruitless), I'm fully relying on the silo. Due to the small capacity of the silo and the large volumes beet needs, it's probably best starting with a smaller field. I currently own 3 silo extensions giving me 300,000 litres of capacity for beet. If the silo is full, I'll simply switch to any other crop until the beet price is high enough to sell any stored beet.

I can respond to one thing, yes you are correct with the maintenance
