I like to bale grass to make it into silage for TMR, seems quicker than using a bunker but that's preference. Also if you want a slower more realistic game it's nice to do with straw and hay since that is how you normally see it in real life! Love driving by the big marshmallows in the fields lmao

You miss the FUN of stacking bales with a forage wagon

hehe i do enjoy the mechanics of it, and its neat to see bales in a field as i drive by but from a profit point.. just seems pointless

I don't think it's so much about profit at this point

I just love watching my baler do a poop every couple of minutes :steamhappy:

I can't afford all of the additional baling tech early in the game, but I'm guessing bales pay more than loose hay/straw? Anyone know?

I leased all the equipment needed to bale square bales and wrap them its pretty cheap that way.
120 bales silage made about 95K and did that in about 20min not bad

To me, baling has a huge advantage when it comes to storing your wheat and straw and hay. Instead of having huge piles of lose straw or hay, its better to bale and stack it.
In FS17 baled straw paid out much higher than just straw collected in forage wagon. In FS19 I get the same price per 1000l for straw whether its bales or not. Easier and more profitable to just use forage wagon for straw and balers for grass silage.

I agree with everything you say but the main reason I use bales is for storage. Its much better to store and stack bales than having lose straw or hay laying around in piles.

or get a hay barn for hay and straw

OP, if you're just selling the straw, then no there isn't any particular reason to bale. You would only bale if there are things you are doing that need bales. TMR is a big reason, but that only applies if you're raising cows. Another reason would be to put them in a shredder to make bedding with, but you can do that direct from a loading wagon now, no shredder required, so bales are no longer necessary for bedding.

If this game were only about profit, I'd never grow any of the root crops, lol.

But then I'd never get to try some of the more exotic interesting equipment.

Making bales and stacking them is fun! (usually) :-P

That was going to be one of my arguments for making bales, but now that hay barns are placeables, it's not as compelling.

They were placeables in 17 as well
