But it was fricking expensive. The 1000CS system (which only had 4 games) was expensive as a new sports car.
Ok, I can't find a verified source for the price right now but back then it was (according to reddit) ~ $65,000! Which would be today about $117,159.84.
Here is a list of things you could buy for that money:
So stop complaining that todays VR is too expensive. It only needs a decent computer (the toaster in your kitchen won't do) ... as I said I run it a 1070 and a i7-7700T If you can live with not being able to read walls of texts.
1st Gen VR dropped from almost 1000€ (... that is what I payed, that is including shipment and tax ... but not including several hardware updates [you partially now get for free] ... and the changes I made to a room) ... to about $400 (I think it was even as low as $300 at some point .. somewhere ... but don't quote me on that. The $400 is the current Amazon.com price) for the Rift and $499 for a Vive system (which was IMHO also cheaper at some point)
Keep out an eye for sales I guess.
And as I also said PSVR isn't good VR ... you know, the "driving a Prius and claiming it's a sports car"-thing.
Speaking of sports cars ... Your last demand is also like this: "Lamborghinis* also didn't took off. They have to be much more cheaper and easier to drive"
*= or put a other high price but high quality car in here.
You can't be using the cheapest car in line an then demand to have the same performance as the high quality ones. Quality (and development) has its price ... and while you could cheap out it is the question if you should.
After all you can get a 360° VR like video experience with $10 of cardboard (or alike) ...
And PS VR ... is neither one nor the other ... it neither especially cheap (with $350 aside you need a PS4 pro**) nor good (tracking issues, lagging frames, and so on, which all induces neusea)
**=I know that you can run it on a regular PS4, but that doesn't mean you should ... it's nauseating ... even more than on the pro.
The only thing that I let count against VR is ... that standing VR and room scale VR is physically exhausting. PLaying a game just to relax ... kinda doesn't work on VR.
But one wouldn't be playing something like Farming Sim while standing, so pretty much the only contra doesn't apply here.
Ever played ETS2 or Project Cars 2 in VR?
There the 3rd Person Cam is wiered and you should not use it.
Unfortunatly I don't have any VR headsets so no, I haven't. I also haven't seen anyone do it.

I had the chance to test it with comanche, great feeling. But i realy thought it was bigger hehe.
But thats 25 years ago. Since then the price for the market is still to high for the big crowd. Just to play a game !
As i said, it is still a nerd thing. Imagine a family with 3 kids and all want one, just to play one game together !!! A few years ago i build my own track IR for FSX and it worked great. It cost me cents and not hundred of euros. Oh and my old webcam ^^.
I used it for maybe 10 hours and it landed somewhere in a box for the past 8 years or so.
And buying a VR set (a good one) for around 800-1000 Euro, just to find out after 10 hours..."nah thats not my thing, or my stomache don't like it to much..." and sell it for alot less, is burning money, normal family don't want to burn.
Nerds do this. Why i know that ? I was one 35 years ago.
I love simulations and never played them on easy, allways realistic as much it was possible...
Much better games, produced for VR only and way lower market price (99 $ and less) and this will boom like smartphones did. Do not forget the change of technic. You will have to buy every year a new VR Set, cause the old won't work with the newest game ... to be continued...
Dying Light vr option
ETS2 and ATS -lauch vr option
Awesome all of them. This FS19 will be sooo cool too.
If anyone haves an VORPX profile please tell me and share!

VR is real for this game using vorpx.
Well, probably one reason why ETS2 VR is still in beta.
There are different ways to implement 3rd person in VR ... some not so good and some better ones.
Maybe something like in Final Approach would be better ... where you stand still and move your farming equipment like toys ... (get this feeling in FS anyway if I play in 3rd person, also the reason why I am upset that I can't set the 1st person as default ... and also that I can't set the 3rd person cam to a default distance .... it annoys the frick out of me to always start in my trailer)
That also answers @Mason since you only would need to have this (1st person) cam as default.
You really should learn how to link properly.
Correct link: https://image.redbull.com/rbcom/010/2014-01-16/1331628305470_2/0100/0/1/vfx-1.jpg (without the spying URL which only serves exactly the same picture ... you can see this URL within your link)
Better links: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VFX1_Headgear or https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forte_VFX1
$ 65,000 in 1992 (Which would be almost $120.000 today)
And this device came at $695 in 1995 (which would be today $1,153.25) or 1.800 DM (920,32 €) in 1995 (which would be 1.274,08 € today)
To be fair here: The 1992 device ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtuality_%28gaming%29 ) included (which the 1195 doesn't):
- A high end computer (Amiga 3000)
- A full standing experience (the 1995 device only has a sitting one and limited track only*... , while the 1992 device had full tracking in all directions ... remembering in Dactyl Nightmare using all sorts environment to my advantage)
- Despite older, better resolution screen with 2x276x372 (the 1995 device one I would describe as unusable low 2x263 x 230)
*=pitch (70 degrees), roll (70 degrees), and yaw (360 degrees)A standing shell (dunno who to name it otherwise) http://www.retro-vr.co.uk/test/Images/DSC_0558.jpg
Anyways the 1995 VFX-1 did cut a lot of corners ... and still wasn't (even tho the list of software is impressive ... for that time anyways) for mass market. Since not only because of the price which was as high as a full PC back then (while today you can't really get a gaming one under $1000 anyway ... and the VR gear for PC is $350 - $400) but mainly it wouldn't work of the bat with many PCs (incompatibilities / setup issues) Which also meant you probably would have to also buy a compatible graphic card ... if you could find one.
You could also put that argument forward for any gaming PC. ... So you only play with offline dice and playing cards then?
I did the same and I wouldn't exactly saying it worked that great. It was usable, but only for about 20h gaming (I did in 3 month) , then some OS patch broke the (hopelessly outdated**) software and I couldn't get it to run anymore.
Solution would have been to buy a 300€ TrackIR set (the real deal from TrackIR), but by that point VR was announced to be released as consumer product, and I didn't want to invest 300€ in something that will be replaced by VR anyway.
**=which had seen an update in years even at that time, now it is about a decade old.
It's 449€ (amazon, in prime - rift) to 599 € (vive store /conrad.de) in Germany
Or you can rent one: (although it's probably currently more viable to buy one) https://www.rentaprinta.de/VR%20Brille%20mieten%20-%20HTC%20Vive%20leihen%20-%20360%20Grad%20Brille%20mieten%20-%20Virtual%20Reality%20Computer%20mieten%20-%20Rent%20a%20VR%20Headset.html (since it's €79 per day [or €39/day if you rent it for 30 days])
- Define better games.
- Most VR in my library games are 20€ or less, a few are up to 60€. Some on my wishlist are 60€ as well.
Erm ... NOPE! That's like saying you need to buy a new screen every year. You can upgrade, but you don't have to (in case of screens from 1080p @60hz, to 1440p@144/200hz and HDR) the VR 2nd Gen has a better resolution on the headset and even better tracking (you can use even bigger rooms and it got ever more precise). But the game itself mostly can't even tell. The new controller in development by Valve will bring some improvements ... like being able to tell where which of your finger is ... but that is compatible to the system, so in worst case (if everyone only supports this controller suddenly) you only need the controllers.
So a big nope (aside that the Gen 1 VR I own is now two years old) to your prediction!
Edit: Rent was only the first in hit in google: here is a cheaper alternative https://www.milo-rental.com/detail/1387/htc_vive_mieten.html (but often they did not tell like: https://www.vr-brille-mieten.de/detail/1387/htc_vive.html )
