What Happens If you don't repair equipment?
will they just stop working?

I unwittingly had a cultivator at 0% and had no issues cultivating. The clue was noticing all the scratched paint after I finally washed it. So no apparent penalty.

But vehicles lose max rpm as their condition degrades.

Nothing appears to happen to your impliments, but driven machinery will become weaker over time, providing less power and speed.

There are penalties, and not just for vehicles. Equipment like cultivators, seeders, planters become unable to operate at their rated speeds. Problem worsens the worse the equipment's "health" gets. As far as we know nothing will ever "stop working" no matter how bad it gets.

There are topics on this question already with good info. Would have been much better if Giants simply told people how this new game mechanic works and what the pros/cons are.

Yes, like JPSGT40 said there are penatlies. I have also noticed loss of speed for damaged equipment. For example, my John Deere t560 would only harvest at 9kpm vs the regular 10 kpm. Yes, might not seem like much of a loss of speedd but it makes a difference if you have a big field. I also noticed this with the Pronto DC9 seeder. If its unrepaired, If i remember correctly, it would be about 3kpm slower when seeding.

SIde note: I also feel like the repair costs are getting higher the more hours my machines get. My John Deere 6250r(55.8 hrs currently) tractor takes a lot of money if it goes down to 80% health. Last time it was 773 euros to repair it back to 100% health. I distinctly remeber when it was new it didnt take that much to repair it.

I just bought the Pronto DC9 and did 1 small field with it. I was shocked to see how much its health went down after doing just 1 small field. Cost me $96 to repair. This could be an expensive machine to run. Especially if, as you suspect, the repair costs go up based on the age of the machine; age based on the number of "work hours" the machine has clocked.

I have the same John Deere 6R (the 6250 R) with front loader and standard wheels/tires. It's my main ride. Its repair costs (ratio of $ per maintenance % point) seems higher than my Case 7210 tractor. I suspect different vehicles/equipment have different "cost per operating hour" parameters. I haven't cracked open the game files to see if each machine has such a setting, but it certainly seems likely. After all, placeable structures (the house, dog house, repair shop, etc.) each have their own "cost per day" parameter, so it seems reasonable that each machine would have its own "cost per work-hour" parameter.

What still hasn't been determined is how does the repair % (e.g. "health" or "maintenance") mainifest itself with different types of equipment? I mean, beyond just its appearance (worn paint, scratches, etc.)? What affect does it have on the performance of a trailer or a tractor weight?

For example, I have a Stroughtman trailer that I am allowing to drop in health without repairs. It has not affected it storage capacity or ability to tow or haul heavy loads. I was expecting it to affect its rolling resistance, causing it to become harder to drag up hills, but I haven't observed such. It does seem to be getting more sloppy in terms of handling as if the suspension is getting softer or worn out -- but this is all very subjective and prone to my own observational bias and suspicions.

It would have been best if Giants just came out and explained the game mechanics of this new repair feature, but, so far, they have been tight-lipped about it. We are left to guess with our own experiments and observations.

Has this been confirmed? And is idle machinery aging as well?
JPSGT40 Dec 2, 2018 @ 6:58am
Giants hasn't confirmed anything, that's why I say "if, as you suspect"

Regarding "aging": I consider age to be based on the "work hours" clocked, which can be seen on bottom of vehicle HUD (the hourglass with count of hours). Not to be confused with how many days have passed since I bought the piece of equipment -- which can be seen in the Menu on the equipment tab.

Idle equipment does not "age" or accumlate wear and tear (repair %) while it sits idle. I base this on my observations during 7 game days played at real-time (1x speed).

work hours have for many games increased the cost of maintenance, but that maintenance was the fixed fee at the end of the day, it does not seem unreasonble and illogical that it has transfered to the new repair system.

So would aged equipment need maintenance sooner, or would the repair bill simply be higher?
Tiger Dec 2, 2018 @ 8:11am
that would need to be tested, i dont have enough play time to make a conclusive answer, but i feel that it would get more expensive and need maintenance sooner, but so far thats only based on how many times i have had to repair them

I think that's why Giants have offered less detail than we would like. Like myself, I think they are collecting data was we go along and after all the bug fixes and everything else, they will offer an explanation when they update the code for modders. I notice different results depending on the types of equipment I use (large tractors vs medium tractors), types of seeds planted and size of field. By the time we are finished, the database will likely be pretty intense. lol
