I did do a test, just using the Large Silo (without the extra silo) - it would not allow me to unload the potatoes but with the extra silo it allowed me to

I used the Large Grain Silo and the Large Silo Extension

Thanks, I will give that a shot. I appreciate your effort to find out why you can do it.

There's no actual potato storage without mods. You can dump them on the ground or maybe build a shed and dump them in there.

Anywhere you like. Root crops you just unload in a pile somwehere and use conveyor belt or frontloader to load your tipper when you ready to sell.

Menace, i tried to put my potatoes in the silo but it says it does not accept.

I wonder if it's only certain size silos that take potatoes, also I think it may be a bug.

Realistically in wet climates you store them in a big shed and use the conveyor to load trailers when needed.

Interesting, You have never been able to put taters in silos in FS games, so that would be a first if it's not a bug.

I was really hoping they would make a shed or something to store them in again like FS15 so the game would keep track of the quantity with the rest of your crops.

Same Margalus, those sheds would be handy now.

I've just been investigating this, there is no silo in game that stores potatoes. So if you have no mods you have a very nice bug!

The Central Grain Elevator in Ravenport accepts potatoes. The railroad silos accept potatoes. No mods. No bugs. The other maps are have similar silos.

On the South American map, the only way to sell any thing at the Transport Company is to use rail to deliver it. This include all root vegetables and sugar cane.

Those aren't "your" silos though. They aren't on your property and they don't show up in your inventory charts.

True. On the Statistics screen it doesn't show how much storage you have in these "shared" silos because you don't own them. But on the Prices screen, you are shown how much inventory you have in your owned silos and these "shared" silos.

When I was much younger, before the time of the big corperate farms, farmers would form a co-op where these large grain silos would be used by all in the co-op. You might not own the silo, but you would store farm products there among other things.

IRL, I worked on a farm that grew carrots, onions and potatoes. The onions and potatoes were stored in large sheds that had fans to control the humidity until they were bagged in 5, 10, 20, and 50 pound bags to be sold at stores or restaurants. Potato chip makers would get them in bulk. Potatoes were washed to get the dirt off before bagging. Carrots were left in the trailers until a OTR driver hauled them to the processing factory.

The onions were planted so the bulbs would develop above the soil while the roots were in the ground. The digger would consist of a 2 x 2 square bar that rotated just under the bulbs to unroot them and lay them on top the ground for a few days to dry the tops and roots.

I was the one driving the semi-trucks hauling the crop from the field to the storage shed. I got pretty darn good at backing the trailer into the dark shed while lining up with the movable conveyor ( just like the larger one in FS) that piled up the onions and potatoes.
