Land prices are wrong
The land prices only seem to be based on the amount of area in the plot. But in a lot of cases a large part of the area is completely unusable (because hills, buildings, roads, rivers, etc). In real life land prices are influenced by such things. In this game the prices should be based on how much arable land is there. And perhaps take some other factors into consideration, such as how much trees there are.

Right now a lot of plots are very bad investments... :( This slows progress unnecessarily. What do you guys think?

I agree.

I agree too. In the beginning you are not able to build a chicken farm in a suitable place. Especially the Ravenport map is bad in my eyes. And yes if I buy land I wan't to use it as I want and i want be able to tear down crap on my land. And the landforming is also costy. If you place a chicken farm (great one 40k) and terrain has been changed to do so, you probably end with 10 fold of the costs. You would need a very plain place, but yeah ... nothing there.

I think there's a guide called "Fields Sizes and Cost" that people should consult before buying any field. It lists prices and field sizes as well as price per acre for both Ravenport as well as Felsbrunn.

Also, a sensible farmer will inspect the land of his future acquisitions before spending his hard earned money on them.

Praise the lord for this words, but hey ... i want to clear the rubbish from my land. You are right but if the sensible farmer only buys lands he can really use then 40% of the map is useless.

Yeah, that map show the problem nicely! Especially on Ravenport it's an issue with most of the small plots. The few small plots in green, have odd shapes, which isn't ideal either.

A good start in Ravenport(hard) is to buy fields 20 and 21, they're cheap and easy access(closeto shop/workshop for rentals etc, these fields can be joined and there's room for two small sheds.

Field 20 is a good example of the problem with the current system. Half the land has a buildings on it, that serve no purpose. The field on it is 2acres. You could buy field 14 for half the price and get the same acreage. And both sections of land can be expanded to about the same amount of farming.

Field 10 for example, 420k, less then half of the land can be converted to farmland. The area above central grain elevator $300k.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1574202857 What are you going to do with this land?

When it was announced that FS19 was going to allow you to buy property instead of fields, and build your own farm on it. I dont think they let the map makers know of there intentions.

Most of the purchacable farmland does not allow for any meaningful expansion. (besides some of the smaller 18-26 fields can be expanded to double there size. But the rest of the fields are already at the maxium size of there parcels. Oh sure you can expand each field out a couple rows. But that just creates bumps that combines cannot pass and the AI cannot turn around on.

There are only two plots of land you can buy to build a field on. East of 3, and South of the shop. And those are going to be maybe 4 acre fields, that you are paying 500K for.

now its too late to go in and fix all the faults of the map. However its not to late to go in and adjust the price on some of these lands. For instance Field 9. Only half that land is usable. It does not need to cost 500k for a 7 acre field. It should be more like $350k for that land.
