Stealing Crops off your neighbors (how to fund your farm)
Hope Giants patch this one...

Super simple... Buy fields that are ready to harvest, harvest the crop, sell it, (grab any straw and sell that).

Sell the land back (for the same price you bought it!!!!)

Yep, .. UHG

The way I see it, if you buy land with crops ready to harvest and then re-sell the land after harvesting, you need to buy the land back to harvest again once crops are re-grown. Using this exploit allows you to not need cultivating or planting equipment, but the buying, selling, and re-buying of land doesn't really net you any real benefit.

I haven't tried selling land yet, but if you're right about the price being the same as the original purchase price, then it does need to be fixed. After all, you can't sell back equipment for the original purchase price.

In real life, land/property does not lose value with use like vehicles do (if anything it increases in value). But from a gameplay perspective this is an issue yeah. One solution would be to add the value of any crops on the land to the purchase price when you buy it.

On the one hand I believe you should be able to sell land for the same price you bought it for. However being able to exploit it like this is an issue. The quickest solution would be to make it so sell back is x% lower then the buy price. However I think that would be a poor aproach. The best solution would be to make it so crop value is added or removed from the sell price. Including tree's. That would stop this exploit from being a thing. It would also make it so a player could improve land and then sell it.

In the end its an exploit that can be avoided by not doing it.

That or just remove the crops when you buy it. In real life land does not lose value, but also in real life farmers won't sell their land before they harvest the crops.

whoever uses this destroys his experience... so not my problem

Hrathen, I'm with ya on that one. It doesn't matter if you dont use the bug.
Raziel Nov 23, 2018 @ 2:17am
well... yeah, that's the obvious solution, after all you are only cheating yourself. I always cultivate the fields first after i buy them, if i wanted to cheat for some money i would just edit the xml.

But still, having the option to do it ingame fells a bit absurd.

Remember that this could be done in multiplayer maps and even though I personally don’t play multiplayer, this could be an issue for server owners.

I think/hope they would add-on the value of any crops / trees and improvements to the land. I have heard now on multiple YouTube channels that Giants is supposed to be working on some kind of terrain manipulation (due to the way playable buildings work right now) and if that’s the case I agree that a “farm” strategy might be to buy land to make improvements and sell it not unlike house flipping.

Remains to be seen.

One possible way to address this is to not let your land be sold immediately. Put it on the market and get a message "there is no buyer yet" and you must wait a random number of days before it sells.

Reaslistic, and could stop the exploitation of this issue.

Sell it yourself full price and have a waiting time.
Sell through a shop instant for a brokerage fee.

Two good ideas. Another one is:
The planted crop and it's current condition (weeds, firtilized, growth stage) should affect price of both buying and selling.

Keep in mind that if you include the value of trees, you could just plant a tree farm and then really rake in the dough!

This may seem like an exploit, but think of this: when you buy a parcel of land and do any work on it, that work takes time and/or money. So if you buy land, harvest any fields on it, then re-sell the land, you still have to spend time harvesting. In the end, you really aren't gaining anything by exploiting this feature.

As Futt pointed out, the value of land increases over time, so this could be the solution. Have the value of land go up after you sell it, that way you have to pay more to buy it back.

So...to prevent an exploit, you don't get a profit from increased value when you sell the land, but the price goes up only when it's not in your hands?

Or, if the price of your land appreciates while you're holding onto it, the best way to play may be to sell your land, period...like some farmers are pressured into doing IRL ;)

If land doesnt lose value then the croip should be eaten and the field should be plowed when purchased
