TMR for beef stock?
Using Seasons 19 and Loan Oak Farm I've decided to run two meat production operations.

Pigs - I'm running feeder to finish on them.

Cattle - what is basically a feedlot operation.

The farm is set up to cater to these two operations almost entirely with hay/silage/tmr and food crop/straw production.

What I want to know is the purpose primarily of TMR in cattle operations;

Most of what I've read is that TMR is very important for milk production. But as raising for beef, do I need to use TMR?

My cattle are fattening up nicely, but TMR production is obviously quite involved am I getting a benefit from it for beef cattle? (they do seem to like it)

TMR is a lot easier than people think.
I'm no "expert" but I reckon TMR is recommended because its just the best way to feed your cattle
In Seasons all you need is Hay (bales) and silage. The proportions to use are easily found on the net - to some extent those proportions will depend on the capacity of the feeding kit you use.

If you're not producing your own silage you can but wrapped bales from the shop. Same with hay, if you're not producing it go to the shop. That's going to be expensive in the medium to long term but it should give you an idea and set you on your way.

If you want to go a bit deeper - gimme a ping on Chat and we'll go from there. Hope this helps

This game does not distinguish between feed for beef cattle and feed for dairy. TMR is the best for both. If you don’t feed TMR then their health won’t be as high.

IRL a lot of feedlots will use a TMR or something similar to fatten out beef cattle, they won't gain much on hay/grass alone. The thing FS 19 misses with a TMR is adding some sort of grain, usually corn (maize) even if silage is making up a portion of it.

TMRs will vary a lot depending on the end goal and what they are being fed to, dairy is a lot different than beef, but both will use a mixed feed.

Thanks for your replies. This is what I thought. I was going to continue tmr feeding as I've got something like 50bales of silage plus about another 50,000 litres of it in bunkers as I stocked up for winter. I hay'd all my fallow fields and got another 50odd bales of that too.

I'm using a tmr mixer mod which makes life easier now and have 90,000 of tmr ready to roll on that too.

I suppose it was really just curiosity and perhaps wondering if streamlining was an option by removing the tmr step. But as it's quality feed I'm going to keep using it as I have a ton of it all the same.

The idea is for my animals to feed the fields and the fields to feed them and then they make me the profit.

There's a far easier way than doing bales.........

I use this for silage http://www.farmingsimulator19mods.com/silageproduction-v1-0-3-0-fs19/

Store your silage, hay and straw in the farm silo from this pack....... http://www.farmingsimulator19mods.com/mf-shed-pack-v1-0-0-0-fs19/

These are some of the coolest buildings I've ever seen in FS. You rez the parts to the ground, click on them and sit back and watch the show as the building assembles itself, pretty cool. They hold 500,000 L each of EVERYTHING in the game. Put 2 side by side and one holds a million liters.

Just pull your mixing wagon thru and it fills from above. During down time I pull the mixer in and mix TMR batches and empty it into the silo so I have mix ready on hand!!!!! Very cool. I keep two between my cow pastures, never been easier to feed cows. I've gotten so much silage from that thing and hay is so plentiful I just do a 1/2 and 1/2 mix of the two and treat my cow cuddies LOL

At the moment I'm using a TMR mixer mod and I've got 90k ready to go with another 90k back up. And 110 4000L bales of straw, about 50 of silage and 50 hay.

So for the time being I'm pretty set for winter. But I'm definitely going to get those mods, thanks.

You're gonna love the shed pack, placing them is the best part lol The silage maker takes up a bit of room but it's killer.
