[Seasons] Insane animal water usage
With seasons the water and straw demand of animals is different in winter and summer. But what i've noticed is that the water demand multiplies by 400x overnight!
The consequence: by the time i noticed in the morning that the drinking throughs were empty the productivity of my animals already took a huge hit (cause apparently i've let them starve without water for hours). And instead of the usual 300L of drinking water i had to deliver 120.000L to get everything filled back up. This is just insane!

For everyone using seasons: be aware, day 8 (late spring) is the day your animals might perish due to sudden insatiable thirst.

that sounds like a bug to me

I'm on day 11 late spring and haven't had that happen to me. You probably have a bug or a mod conflict somewhere.

I just added cows myself and ran across this bug.

Water was full in the sheep pen and the cow pen. A short while later all the water in both pens was gone. I could understand it if the cows used all their water, but the sheep use like very little water. Clearly something is bugged.

{my issue happened in early autumn, just after I installed the Aug 7 update to Seasons}

I'm using the small cow stable for 50 cows from the original game, as well as the Cowshed 2000 mod. Both stables had similar results. The small horse stable also had this problem, almost killed off the livery horses. Don't have any sheep.

And now that you mention it, i'm also running the version 1.0.1.0 update that came out recently. Maybe something is bugged there?

In thinking about this, maybe it's more a transition problem than an actual bug.

The release notes say they adjusted water usage for animals. A higher usage rate ticking over when the water trough is not maxed out (but adequate for the lower usage), could cause the trough to be emptied in a single tick.

Just a thought.

Thats also what i was on about, although i didn't link it to the patch but thought it was triggered by a change of season.

as an aside for anyone reading this thread, there's a "water pump" mod that comes with Seasons - install it next to the animals water trough and it automatically fills it to minimum of 15% (iirc) so in theory, animals should never die of thirst

Pump is not working for me neither. Anybody else?

I saw the pump mod in a youtube video, so don't know that much about it.

Did you let the water level decrease to <15%?. It is apparently designed only as an emergency measure to protect your animals if you forget to water them.

Had an issue the first seasons farm...I had a lot of issues on that farm! But I use the pump mod now without regrets!

I can't recall the cost, $5000 perhaps??? A plumber comes out and installs the pump, on some farms a water tank appears during installation. The plumber arrives at 0600 the next day and takes ten hours to install the pump.

The system that the plumber installs is different from a pump. The installed system has a valve that needs to be operated manually and is only available on the original game stables (not for mods). The pump needs to be bought separately and is only a backup measure that wont fill the drinking throughs entirely.

Anyway, i've installed pumps now so lets see if they kick in when the water level gets low.
