Log Forks
A log fork I'm using is the one where the bottom part looks like the forks for a fork lift. The upper part of my log fork has a bent piece of metal that moves up and down. When I use this it's so annoying where it hardly picks the logs up where it take a number of attempts because the metal hook at the top seems a bit too short where the logs slip off. I used to have this issue in FS 17 with the thinnest logs and in FS 19 it's happening with the thickest logs as well. Sometimes it takes me about eight minutes to pick one log up. I thought of using a different log fork but they don't fit and the vehicles that except the other log forks are no good because the crane arms don't extend so I can't load the loads into the log trailer.

How r you approaching to pick it up? are you trying to scoop it up? that wont work, You gotta position it above the log an grab it like you would grab something off a table with your hand

Like Switch said; Think of it as a big hand, with the bottom spike the thumb and the claw top as fingers.

I position the log fork from above. I have issues with the pallet fork as well at times where it sometimes takes ages to slide the forks of a pallet where the forks drags the pallet. With that little forklift vehicle, god knows how we're supposed to use that when all the ground is uneven and we can't get it 100% level through the Landscaper.

The "sticky" forks is something that happens to everyone. The items don't rest properly on the forks so can sometimes clip inside and get trapped on the fork. Best solution is to tip the forks all the way over and drag the offending item off them.

I chunked the logs with chainsaw, picked them up with hand tool and put them in a small trailer. I had to use both side dumps, and rear dump before I emptied all the chunks, but it worked.
I too found that it works fairly well if you approach the log with the fork from the top or at an angle of say 30-45 degree (angle between ground and lower part of fork). Also while you close the fork to grab the log, try and notice as soon as the log starts to uncontrollably vibrate just a little. That is the moment the collision physics gets wonky because of intersecting objects. Just release the fork a little bit at that moment and you should be able to lift and transport it fairly well. Doesn't always work as sometimes depending on log weight and diameter it still slips off the fork and you have to pick it up again. Even better is to observe the fork while it closes and as soon as you see it doesn't move anymore even though it might not visually hit the trunk boundary, just release it a little bit and lift off. One gets the feel for it after a while. The instability issues will most likely never get solved because it is very hard to avoid that problem in a rigid object only physics simulation for reasons i won't go into here.

If you use forestry on planted trees only, you can sort of avoid all the fork shenanigans by using the ScorpionKing and cutting the tree trunk above a low enough trailer in which case the cut logs just fall into the trailer propelled by the momentum of the tree cutting ScorpionKing. This doesn't work if you clean up an area with trees that were put there by the map designer since the ScorpionKing unfortunately can't handle all of the different tree types.

P.S. If you plan to use forestry only to clean up an area from trees, the fastest way to do it i find is to first cut all the trees with the chainsaw, clean up all the foliage real quick without cutting up the tree branches at all. Now grab the whole tree with the "Tajfun EGV 80 AHK" logging winch and drag it to the Sawmill. While you do a little more money by cutting up the whole tree, it isn't worth the huge time investment in my opinion. Unless of course you want to do it because you like the work it involves. The logging winch is a forestry mod that can be downloaded from the ingame mod portal. Just make sure to display all the mods not only the high rated ones or you might not find it.

The top part of the fork needs it's hydraulic strength changed. You can Google how to do it.

The better option is to do what everyone else does, and get the mod. Stoll Log Fork Duo. Not only does it work correctly, it also has tension straps, so you can just hover over a pile of logs, and hit L, and pick them all up. You can use it for moving Big Bags, pallets, whatever you want'.

ive always had better luck with the manure fork with grapple.

I loved that Log Fork Duo. Didn't realize it was converted from 17. Going to have go look for it now.

Stoll Log Fork Duo v1.0.0.0[www.modhub.us]
It was done just as a quick conversion and leaves a few texture warning messages in your log file, but they are inconsequential and can be ignored.
