When To Chaff Corn
What stage of growth is it best to chaff corn for silage? I've heard darkest green because of the water content and have heard late harvest . What are your thoughts. I'm in mid green right now so it's time to get some opinions.....

take 1 strip from a field when its green and then wait tell it gets orange and take another strip and see what the difference is in yield, then you know what to do for the next year

The video linked explains it all.

Ok so it makes less than 2000L difference. I'm jsut gonna harvest now and save the time.

I don't play on seasons, but getting the crop 1 stage sooner will more than make up for any difference over time.
IRL the greener corn would make more (and better) silage than the dry and crispy. It will have more water weight, but dry matter would be about the same. (Dry matter is with no or very limited moisture in the sample, hence the name.) Also, too dry of silage will not ferment properly, and you can lose a lot to spoilage which could be avoided chopping sooner. Too soon and crop moisture is too high, causing water to be squeezed out in the process, which will take valuable nutrients with it.

In the video he commented on the chopper having storage, I think a couple of them can hold ~5000L of stuff, isn't much but helps when filling wagons full vs. dumping early.
