[SPOILERS] A Warning for "Rise From the Ashes" Day 4 Trial
I am playing through the game for the first time and made a major error that softlocked my game and forced me to restart the ENTIRE episode.

[SPOILERS AHEAD]

During Day 4, Trial Latter, you get to cross-examine Gant, and eventually you present one of two pieces of evidence to prove how he moved Goodman's body. He then threatens to leave unless you provide concrete proof he killed Goodman.

The player is given two choices, "I have proof," or "I do not have proof yet." This is where I ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up. Instinctively, I assumed there was some form of proof among the evidence already collected, so I selected the first option. At this point, I only had one unit of "health" left from making a few mistakes earlier in the trial and saved my game just in case I picked the wrong item. Bad idea. I realized later that no piece of evidence works because you are SUPPOSED to pick the "I do not have proof" option.

Because I saved my game at this point, I literally had no way of going back and picking the correct option. Now, I have to start the entire case over again.

Please be aware when you get to this point in the game, do not make the mistake I did.

Another tip is using the multi-slot saves wisely. In my playthrough, I used the first slot for saving normally when I wanted to, but used the other ones for the auto-save you get after the end of each section. That's useful for cases like this.

this isnt the only interaction where you can get stuck like that. (i think a lot of interactions like that can get you stuck if you save too late) it sucks, but at least its fixed with the modern games

You could do that, but personally I just strictly forbade myself from saving during trials so I wouldn't cave into save-scumming. One healthbar per trial, if that's not enough you restart the trial. Them's the breaks.

Honestly I think the red herring options the game offers you are very well designed; they force you to think things through one step ahead AND they make brute-forcing your way through puzzles that much harder.
