The anime is a great adaptation but is an adaptation of the games, it's like watching a movie based on a novel. That's why I would also recommend playing the games first

The anime actually shortened the story a lot and it did not include some details from the game. Some minor characters also did not exist in the anime version (since it's kinda difficult to squeeze in all of the cases into a 2 season anime). I would recommend the anime if u r short on time but the game is definitely worth itttt.
i'd play the games first, then watch the outtakes from the anime, then watch the anime.

Anime is alright though its quality is hidden miss at the best of time. I would highly recommend the game because you enjoy it more.
