Is there a fan patch that removes the localization changes?
I'm probably one of the few who think this but despite my love for the Ace Attorney series I've hated the localization and I've been wondering, now that the series has come to pc will there be a fan patch to remove the localization changes?

I doubt there will be one. Most fans like the localization.
Even the fan made translation of Investigations 2 aimed at a translation as close to the localizations as possible so they went as far to edit Backgrounds and items and do a fandub for characters new to the game.

There probably isn't now and I doubt there ever will be. Why would you even want the localization changes removed. Most of the location changes were stated solely in interviews and are said nowhere in the game, the ramen to hamburgers thing is hardly a big enough deal, and the names were changed in order to KEEP the jokes, puns, or meanings from the Japanese version, which would be lost unless you knew Japanese if they remained the same. Quite frankly, I cannot fathom a reason to DISLIKE the localization.

I remember playing the original trilogy with the 2004 version I believe? It was a lot better in certain places.

Years later I was repurchasing the game on 3ds when the trilogy in one came out and getting blasted with the line "I feel like my hemorrhoids are doing the Harlem Shake". Its really cringy imo.
There are a few of these every now and then and personally it really threw me off.

Fun fact: The localization was made long before the popular Harlem Shake video. It was just referencing obscure dancing technique at that point of time, me thinks.

This. The fact that it became a meme LATER makes it even more funny.

Ace Attorney predicted the future.

Most of the time a direct translation is a bad translation.

I agree. Localisation is far better. People just want to complain about everything this days...

That depends on the game really.
If its a serious game its bad if translation is done bad.
But when it comes to AA where there are a lots of jokes and word puns most of them would just fall flat in a direct translation, and also fun to see what the translators came up with to make the obvious japanese stuff in the game actually fit. :V

Depends on the game though. With some games localization translation sucks and a direct translation is better. Also with some games they do both mix a localization and a direct translation together. But games like Phoenix Wright where they had western countries in mind when they did the translation and made the game take place in a Western country outside of Japan. If you look at what 4kids did with some of the Anime they translated and localized they really butchered it and made it terrible.

It would probably not be a very long time if it ever did happen. The games would basically need to be completely re-translated due to how much was changed in localization and with how text heavy these games are I don't see something like that happen in the foreseeable future. Who knows FF7 received a fan retranslation and that's a pretty long text heavy JRPG but the original translation for FF7 was pretty poor overall.

IMO though I feel like with Phoenix Wright the localization team did the best they could these were difficult games to translate and much of the humor, wordplay, and puns are impossible to translate in a way someone without knowledge of Japanese would understand. So they were forced to translate the game in a way that could keep the sense of humor intact without changing the general meaning of the dialogue and story.
