You can also move between different rooms/areas from the menu. Select "Move", and then where you want to go. More places open up as you get further into the investigative parts. You can also select "Talk" to speak with anyone in the room. Always talk to anyone about all available subjects.
This is how you generally progress in these parts. Talk to everyone about everything, investigate everything, and move between areas to see if a new event triggers.
To search for Evidence & Profiles in your surroundings in the game, use the Examine Button when in a crime scene.
When during the Detective Work Segments, its normally hard to lose the game during this segment as the game won't proceed until all the clues and testimony have been found.
But in the Courtroom Segment, you need to listen to both the testimony and evidence, as you have a limited number of times you can make a mistake as indicated by the Health Bar shown, when a section of the health bar is being highlighted, it tells you what the cost of your mistake will be in the game, so make sure you don't run out otherwise its an instant guilty verdict & its back to the start of the episode.
