Plus I believe the international versions were published by Nitendo, which could certainly stifile things.
Joking, kinda. I was so disappointed by that game. :(
I like the Switch, but it's FAR from perfect.
* You can't back up your own save data to the memory card that's been supported since day one, something that we've been able to do consistently for decades (and no, paying for cloud saves that won't be available in the future isn't a viable long-term solution)
* Parental controls require an app on a completely separate device
* Voice chat requires A SEPARATE APP, WHAT THE HELL, from the parental control app
* A bunch of retail games are only partially on the cartridges, and the rest of the data needs to be downloaded
* Other weird technical stuff, like if you start updating a game but you can't fully update for whatever reason, then you literally can't start the game anymore, even if it's a cartridge and you delete the partial update first
The Switch is a fun system, and I'm glad that I have one, but it definitely has that one-giant-step-forward-and-several-giant-steps-back Nintendo feel whenever I use it. As long as there's no extra DRM to worry about, I'll take a game on Steam over the Switch (or any console, really) any day.
I loved it, but I was also only really in it for the Phoenix Wright stuff, since I'm not a huge Layton fan. I thought it was pretty good, personally.
I understand and agree these things could be better but none of these are things that bother me. I just buy games on switch and play them I don't really care about parental controls or any need for voice chat. For me the switch is a great complimentary system. I always love the main series mario/zelda/smash/kart and can't wait for metroid.
Yeah, the first-party Nintendo games are always worth it, and I can't wait for Metroid Prime 4. I just wish the system itself wasn't so restrictive; the Wii U wasn't any better. I have homebrew on my Switch, which is great for getting around some of those unneeded barriers (ironically, Reggie outright said that they locked save data to prevent hacking, and look at how well that turned out for them), but that shouldn't be a requirement. The games and the design of the system are great, but the operating system is really bad, and that's a big part of the experience for me, especially when revisiting an older console in the future. The Switch is an exclusives-only machine for me right now.
