Promoting to Mage

I did my first graduation, sweet. Graduated four guys it was fun, it was easy and I enjoyed it. Now I am on my second graduation cycle and they're asking specifically for Mages.

I have got a knight mentor quest and I built the mage building immediately and now I am down to 8 weeks till graduation and no Mage mentor quest has shown up.

I'm not sure if I am missing some trigger or if this just really poor design.

Anybody that can educate me on this?

Graduating mages is just optional in that case. You get the mage mentor later so there is no chance to do so in 8 weeks at your current progress.

It's poor design that you're getting these quests before you're capable of getting the mentor required to train those students, but there's really no penalty for not being able to graduate mages before you're capable of even training them.

I found that unless you already have what they happen to be asking for, it's safe to just ignore the requests for specific students for graduation, just throw any lvl 10 at them if that's all you have, as there doesn't seem to be any penalties for doing so. You won't get as much fame for it but it's fine. You can usually get more than enough fame from graduating a few max level characters regardless of jobs. Max level gives a big bonus to graduation reward as it is.
