This game was first released in 1996 on two discs, and I remember playing it while I was in elementary school, trying to figure out what the heck I was supposed to be doing :D Once I figured out the objective, I became completely immersed in this alternate past with tidbits of actual history. It's not necessarily an easy game, and there were many times when I would run around the ship knocking on random doors and trying to figure out what, exactly, I was supposed to be doing, but that really didn't detract from my enjoyment. Additionally, this is the first game that I ever played with alternate endings, and it absolutely blew my mind.
I would definitely recommend this game for anyone who likes mystery-type games. The graphics are a little old and the voice acting isn't great, but the story and characters are gripping and entertaining.
Also, there is no autosave function, so be sure to save your game often and in different save files.

I remember getting Titanic: Adventure Out of Time back in 1998 when I was 12 years old. My parents, despite forbidding me from playing video games at the time, were under the mistaken belief the game had something to do with the James Cameron movie of the same name. What the game lacks in romance, it more than makes up with its espionage storyline, atmosphere, and gameplay.

Gameplay is very much a point-and-click affair. Most of the puzzles will involve item collecting and speaking with the people who are onboard the ship with you. While the main plot and goal are straightforward for the most part, there are many subplots that not only reveal characters' backstories and motives, but also influence how some of the puzzles can be solved. This, in turn, can lead to several different endings depending on what you did during the course of the game and which items you've managed to take with you before, and when the Titanic sinks. (Spoilers, I know.)

For those who don't care to play the game, there's a Tour Mode where you can just wander and explore the ship to your heart's content. Some of the story characters will act as tour guides and give you information about the ship, her passengers, and the tragedy of the sinking.

While the graphics aren't much to speak of today, they were cutting edge for 1996. (One thing I have to get off my chest: I've read that the graphics were so realistic - for its time - that they were featured in documentaries about the Titanic. I have never been able to find any evidence to support this.) The use of digitized actors via FMV photographs in lieu of character models when speaking to NPCs can come off a bit unnerving to modern audiences, but I think it has aged well compared to other games that have utilized FMV technology from the same era. It helps that the actors portraying the various characters you interact with perform really well in their roles.

One thing my 12-year-old self did not appreciate, and somehow didn't occur to me just how creepy the game could be with no music until I replayed the game, via a virtual machine shortly before the GOG release, was the soundtrack. As a 12-year-old, I did not enjoy the soundtrack and played the game in its entirety with the music off. (Why my 12-year-old self thought this was a good idea will likely remain a mystery.) When I went to replay it, I found the game even more unnerving than it already was and left the music on. As an adult, I still do not like the soundtrack, but I will give it points for adding to the atmosphere and tension of the game.

If there are a few negatives, most of them stem from both the GOG and the Steam rereleases. In both versions I encountered a black screen at the very start of the game, these were easily solved by bringing up a window for the game's version (F12, if memory serves me right). Additionally, dialog will often get cut off, but this can be mitigated by turning on subtitles. There is also a curious (and thankfully not fatal) glitch introduced in the digital rereleases where going from the Grand Staircase to the Boat Deck warps you to the A-Deck Promenade.

I never expected to see this game resurface (no pun intended) on digital storefronts, given that the last I had heard from Nightdive was the technical challenge in getting the game to run on modern systems. Despite my minor complaints about the digital rereleases regarding the technical issues, I'm glad to see Nightdive was able to bring back an underrated gem from my childhood.

This game truly changed my life. Granted, I was 6 at the time, but I played it through probably 100 times since then. It not only sparked my love for video games but also my love for the Titanic and her passengers of which I now consider myself an amateur historian.

I can't be sure if this game will have the same effect on you, but I will say, the grapics were WAY ahread of their time, the writing is pretty damn good, the story is deep and exciting and the replay value is immense (there are probably 50 different ways to complete it. And being that the sinking is somewhat in real time an there were multiple endings, it was groundbreaking in 96 and it's compelling to this day.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have a World War to stop.

I have spent hundreds of hours on this game from 1998 - now.
I was eight years old in 1998 when my parents bought me this game at a local shop. I had no idea that I would fall in love with it as much as I did. Granted, being only eight years old at the time, I felt REALLY lost and confused a lot of the time, but, I strived to make progress every single day. Eventually, I got the hang of things and I remember being so enthralled with the story, its characters, and the dramatic plot. To this day, I still get Chopin's Nocturne Op. 9: No. 1 stuck in my head, which plays in the beginning of the game on the radio in the apartment. The rest of the soundtrack is also hauntingly beautiful, as well, often times having an undertone of imminent dread. I remember feeling anxious whenever I would descend into the bowels of the ship because the music made me feel so uneasy.

When I saw that this game was available on Steam (I bought it for a measly $1.49 on sale - what a steal!), I immediately purchased it. I have my original game CDs from the 1990s as well as a re-released version the official website was selling ages ago which was supposed to make the game run on Windows Vista. I have Windows 10 and I can't tell you how many countless hours I poured into making my original CDs / replacement CDs run on Windows 10. I searched the internet and just about everyone else was having issues with it, as well. I eventually did get it to run, after jumping through a ridiculous number of hoops, but, it wasn't smooth sailing from there - pun intended. It was very laggy, it crashed a lot, and was a glitchy nightmare. However, I played around with this Steam re-release and I'm not running into any of those mentioned issues. My only issue that I am having is that sometimes the dialogue cuts out a second or two early, making it appear a bit choppy because the last part of people's sentences get cut a bit short. This might be annoying for those who are new to the game, but, I've played this so many times over the years that I pretty much know all of the dialogue at this point.

Yes, the game is a bit grainy and pixelated. This is a common issue with many older FMVs, but, I remember playing it on my Windows 95/98 computers and it was never as HD as modern FMVs of today's generations are, and, that's just to be expected. This doesn't really bother me, though. If you are someone who will easily get annoyed at things looking slightly pixelated in your games, then, this might not be for you. I also worry about how a new / modern audience would react to this game. Obviously, I'm seeing the game from my rose colored nostalgia goggles, but, I don't know how people who have never played the game before will react to it. I can safely say that this is my all time favorite PC game EVER, but as I said, I am wearing those rose colored nostalgia goggles. If you are like me and if you had fond memories from your childhood of playing this game, then, you will no doubt love it. I can also safely say that it does run on modern PCs. As I mentioned beforehand, I had a complete nightmare trying to get my CD version to run on Windows 10. I spent hours trying to make it work, and even then, it was a glitchy mess. Fear not, this is not a glitchy mess as far as I can tell. It's not perfect, but, it runs pretty smoothly for me. I haven't had any crashes thus far. Even back in the 90s, after this game came out, I remember having crashes even then on my old Windows 95 computer. Thus, I've gotten into the habit of saving my game often just in case.

So... now, I bet that you're wondering about the plot. Well, I'll try to keep it as spoiler free as I can. Essentially, you are an agent who really screwed things up when they sent you to the Titanic to investigate... something... (no spoilers) and you failed your mission miserably. The game starts with you being in your apartment as the blitz is happening. As the blitz bombings begin, your character sees the windows being blown out in front of him, followed by fire, and then... you've suddenly time traveled to the Titanic! Like magic! So, yay, you now get to re-do your entire failed mission and make things right. I know that this concept sounds very cheesy, but, I assure you that it does make more sense once you're actually immersed in the game.

Along the way, you will meet many memorable characters. Fun fact: Cyberflix used real actors from a theatre company in Knoxville, Tennessee to be the FMV actors for this game. Each one is unique and they definitely fit the time period very well. This is a classic point and click game with puzzle elements. Some puzzles are very hard and confusing. As a little kid, I had to rely on a walkthrough to get me through certain parts that I was stuck on. There's one puzzle in particular later on in the game that requires a Russian nesting doll that had me banging my head against the wall when I was a kid. Don't dismay, though. Getting lost in this game and aimlessly wandering around for hours, trying to figure out what the heck to do next, are actually cherished memories from my childhood. That being said, yes, it can be a bit complex and frustrating. Some puzzles are also very time sensitive. To 100% complete the game with every objective completed and everything done right, requires usually more than one playthrough. Let's just say that certain puzzles can have you run out of time to complete them, thus, altering the ending of the game. It took me three playthroughs before I got it right without using a walkthrough to cheat.

So all in all, do I recommend this game? Absolutely, yes. Do I think that modern gamers / the younger generation of gamers will appreciate this game? I don't know. It's a mixed bag. If you're up for the idea of a grainy / slightly pixelated old-school point and click FMV from the mid 90s, then, you will most likely love it. But if that doesn't sound like your cup of tea, then, this might not be for you.

This game is an absolute treasure. If you're interested in playing some classic retro PC games then this one should definitely be on your list. Especially if you're someone who is interested in the Titanic.

You play as a British secret agent aboard the Titanic during the night of the sinking. You're pretty much the James Bond of 1912. The game is mostly point and click with little action. You'll find that the graphics and gameplay style are quite dated and some of the puzzles are awfully difficult. However, the non-linear story and exploration of the ship are still very enjoyable. There's no autosave and it's possible to get a "game over" so you should save somewhat often. You can succeed or fail at objectives, and the game turns into a race against time to make it onto a lifeboat. The better your performance before the iceberg, the easier it is to succeed during the sinking. There's one "good" ending and a few "bad" endings based on what items you manage to leave the ship with. That is, if you manage to leave the ship alive at all.

Some technical problems I've had was a completely black main menu screen and missing textures in the game. This was fixed simply by pressing Esc on the black menu screen to start a new game and then saving the game which restored the textures. Also, the dialogue from the characters is sometimes cut off. That is something I couldn't fix and it sounds like they're interrupting each other if there's more than one person speaking.

Other than that, I truly enjoyed playing this game again for the first time in about 10 years and I hope you'll enjoy it too. I finished it thrice in only six hours. A somewhat short game if you already know where to go and what to do. Newcomers will take much longer but there's more fun to be had in simply walking around and exploring anyway. For the cheap price tag, it's a great addition to your Steam library.

The game itself is an excellent point & click adventure. However, this adaptation has a couple of glaring issues that detract from the overall experience:

1) There is a visual bug whereby the image wont sharpen when moving forward or turning right. This means the game looks worse today than on release over 20 years ago.

2) Some of the voice work will cut out and skip during conversations.

Please fix these issues and bring this game up to the standard it deserves.

Words cannot describe how much I love this game. It was a childhood favourite. Being able to roam the decks of the Titanic, the characters, the stories, the endings...loved every part of it. One of my top 10 games of all time.

The music from this game echos through my childhood. I've loved this game since I was 10 years old. Back in the day I had the biggest crush on the lift attendant, lol. Honestly when you consider that this game is 27 years old, it's amazing. The graphics are not bad at all and they created such a captivating story. This game changed my life and has made me a lifelong gamer. I'm so glad I can still play it. It's absolutely beautiful.

Nostalgia overload. Glad I could finally beat it as an adult.

This is one of the greatest games I have ever played in my entire life. It's timeless. The accuracy of re-building such a beautiful ship is stunning. The graphics are aged, but it still melts my heart and gives me chills. For years I fought with trying to make my old discs work, then it came out on GOG. Then I was told it showed up on here and I bought it in a hot second because it deserves all my money. It's a shame there's no official soundtrack that I know of, but I do have all the songs ripped from the game and they're gorgeous. I could rave on for a while about this game, but I simply must get on with playing it! A+
