update: game recognizes the controller now, after i mashed the O (or maybe the X key) while the game started up in big picture mode, later i tried opening the game without mashing it still recognizes the controller, so i don't know how but the mashing fixed it somehow, i think, i didn't mess with anything else, so if you have problems with the game recognizing the controller try that, hope it helps.
I know it is fully compatible with my PS3 controller with ScpToolkit (XInput wrapper).
Shoulder buttons and triggers with this game are swapped. Also those with Wireless adapter, the buttons will be all over the place by default. I think they simply are looking for hardware ID and just automatically applying controller buttons accordingly and they simply missed wireless adaptor (as it has seperate hardware ID to actual controllers).

No.
DS4Windows is XInput wrapper, it emulates Xbox controller and then transfers inputs from DS4 into that emulated controller and all games which have XInput support will work.So if the game does not support XInput controllers, even Dualshock 4 won't help you, however majority of games after 2007 should have XInput support as long as they have controller support.
Problems that happen with this is that as game cannot distinguish the controller from Xbox controller, you'll always have Xbox button prompts, cannot utilize unique features of the controller like lightbar and gyro and ever so slight increased input latency.
Also not sure what's the purpose of DS4Windows after the Steam support was introduced. It's working better and you can even customize stuff with the controller on fly and on top of this you can much easier mix 'n' match controllers if you want 4 local players.
Game supports XInput controllers, so yes.
Also there's now Dualshock 3 drivers for windows available thanks to Playstation Now PC client and with that you can actually just use the controller with Steam controller input API as well.
Iirc you're required to launch your game from big picture mode in order to use steam support's controller utility, so despite how much of an improvement it is from the past, it's still inconvenient to actually use it. Unless they changed that and it's no longer a big picture mode exclusive? I haven't been keeping up with this.
it disgusts me when pc devs being M$ kissarse
