Team sonic racing sequel ideas and thoughts.
Hi all. I know team sonic racing performed poorly in 2019 and was an option neglected by many people. But I actually kinda like the mechanics in this game. Though I have not played it..... I have not bought the game because of some reasons. But one thing I like about this game is the mechanics. So in case.... sega makes a sequel to team sonic racing..... I would love to share my thoughts and ideas about the game and what else it should contain..... Feel free to tell me your opinions too!

OK let's start:

1. More characters:
As we all know, team sonic racing has only 15 characters which is very bad for a 2019 racing game. Heck! Even sonic riders released for sonic's 15th anniversary had 16 characters! So I would love to see more characters in this game. Minimum 25 characters.

2. More Race tracks:
Again. Team sonic racing lost points in content. It just has 22 courses for a 2019 game whereas other games such as mario kart 8 has 30 courses and CTR has 40. I would love to see more than 30 courses in the sequel...

3. Proper team selection:
I don't like the team selection in team sonic racing. Vector in silver's team? Chao in Amy's team?! I want to suggest certain teams here:

1. SONIC, TAILS, KNUCKLES
2. SHADOW, ROUGE, OMEGA
3. AMY, CREAM, BIG( I think sega thought that cream is only 6 years old and she is too young to drive a car.... Are you serious? You put cream in sonic riders! She was on a hoverboard and skates! That's more dangerous than a car!)
4. SILVER, BLAZE, CHAO ( I think the Chao belong here. I mean, even in the adventure mode, silver is the only one who even haves a good time speaking with omochao and even in sonic rivals 2, we have seen him being concerned about Chao....)
5. EGGMAN, METAL, ORBOT/CUBOT ( It would be great to play as orbot and cubot Instead of zavok!)
6. VECTOR, ESPIO, CHARMY ( Now this is a team!)
7. JET, WAVE, STORM ( Honestly, I would love the babylon rogues to be here. I mean, they are meant for racing and please don't tell me that they can only ride on hoverboards. If they can ride that, then cars should be a piece of cake for them!)

I would like these teams to take part in the adventure mode of the sequel.

These teams below can be unlocked after completing certain modes in the game:

ZAZZ, ZAVOK, ZEENA
MIGHTY, RAY, BEAN/FANG/BARK
CLASSIC SONIC, CLASSIC TAILS, CLASSIC KNUCKLES.

As you can see there are 30 characters already. Many of you might think, what about adding Tikal, Chaos, Sticks, Infinite and others? Well you see, Team sonic racing also has these character interactions in between the race which I find it kind of cool. It makes the race so lively. I don't think adding tidal is a good idea. She might not be familiar with the cars. Sticks as you know does not like gadgets at all.. Infinite? I don't think we would even interact or even enter the race...... He is tooooo edgy..

Also I just want to add characters that are familiar and mostly canon. So I don't think adding marine, Sally, shade and all will work out.... Anyway 30 characters is plenty..

I think adding the OC character from Forces for single player races will be good too...

What about other sega characters? I think sega can make a "SEGA DLC"and add characters such as Nights, Aiai, Ulala, Amigo, Billy etc.... By doing this, we get atleast 40 characters! That's more than enough! They can even add courses from the sega universe into this dlc for more courses!

4. Online:
You know, these kind of games are meant to be played online. So if sega can guarantee a good online mode, I am good.

5. Others:
I think adding variety to vehicles will also be good. Not only cars, but also bikes and hoverboards can join in! That would be great! I am not saying to do this for all characters.... characters like vector and shadow would be great on a bike whereas characters like babylon rogues will be great on hoverboards. By default everyone will have cars. But we can add one more vehicle to each character to make it more interesting.

Also, I guess we could add some variety to tracks.... I am not saying like transformed where we transform into boats and planes....... Like, for example take sonic riders sky road stage, After every lap, a hole is formed by a missile in the stage which makes the stage harder as we progress. I think that would make it competitive. But this is optional only. Normal race tracks are also fine only. But you know? Adding some hazards to the tracks could be challenging. I am not saying many but only a little.

Also the team ultimate could have been a bit longer and better. The ultimate lasts for only 6-8 seconds. Making it 10-12 seconds will be good. Also, just making a streak of yellow lines for team ultimate is not very appealing at all. Take transformed, when sonic goes all star, rings surround him. I would like to have each characters to have a unique style to their team ultimate.

6. What should be retained:

Wisp powers
Vehicle customization
Character interactions and team mechanics

If sega does this...... It won't be one of the best racing games, IT WILL BE THE BEST RACING GAME! I know it is a lot of work but sega has to do something more and put more effort to make sonic famous again like they did in 90's. I also wish they make this year' s anniversary the best..... If this is too much.... I think they can just make another good sonic riders game, but honestly I like team racing thing more.

So what do you guys think about this?

What about an actual adventure story mode complete with HUB areas and a properly executed story to compliment the racing experience? One of my favourite kart racing games, CTR Crash Team Racing on PS1, had HUB areas to explore allowing you to practice the controls before your next race. A fantastic way of letting players take a break in between races as well.

The story was light-hearted, simple and easy to understand. All it was about is just an alien from another planet challenging the fastest driver in the world to a race, where he'll turn the planet into a concrete car park if they lose, which sets up the gameplay perfectly as all the different drivers compete against each other to win trophies, defeat bosses and earn their keys. This also explains why you could only do the Adventure mode as one character. Despite its simplicity, it had one of the most effective and immersive stories I think I've ever seen in a racing game.

I think if enough care is put into the story of an actual Sonic kart racing game, I think it could work really well, but sadly, Team Sonic Racing and Sonic Free Riders have already demonstrated the exact opposite for the series.

I actually like your idea of having HUB worlds for different game modes. For racing games, usually story is not such a significant factor. Mario kart wii did not have a story mode but it is widely agreed as one of the best mario kart racing game. Although adding a story would also be a great idea! Sonic riders had a story which is not too good or not too bad. It has a decent story that makes the game more unique and interactive and better. So as long as there is a decent story mode, I am good with those racing games. The most significant factor in these racing games are content and variety especially...... games like sonic riders and transformed had a good amount of content and variety to their games so that we don't feel bored playing the same track again and again. The next is controls and physics. I think team sonic racing already had a great mechanics. So it would be nice if they improve it or even keep it as it is. The next thing is soundtrack. We can leave it upto sega to get the best soundtrack for sonic games. The sonic franchise has one of the best soundtrack out of all video game franchises. But i think for now they are focusing on the main game for sonic's 30th anniversary. So let them take their time. These sequels are not That important. First a good 3d mainline sonic game, then they can consider these requests. But still, it would be great if they can give out ports of previous sonic games like colors and unleashed in the meantime like nintendo did.....

I don't really see the point. If anything, devs should make a sequel to Transformed with more characters, proper online modes, and better with an editor to build custom tracks for Steam Workshop. They can just add Team mode from TSR to new Sonic Racing game as a mode for races.

P.S. I wouldn't mind a good story in story mode too, but after Sonic Forces and first TSR, I really doubt devs can pull it off.

Yes I know transformed is somewhat a slight better game than TSR. But sonic is the one in real danger here. His games have been an utter disappointment nowadays and are receiving mixed reviews. I really liked the idea of TSR when it's trailer was released and I was so hyped. With the return of crush 40, i thought that the devs will finally give us a good sonic game now. But after it's release itself it started receiving poor reviews saying that there is not enough content for a 40$ game. They even said that the adventure mode did not have any cutscenes at all. I know that this game has a lot of potential..... Heck! Almost every sonic game like even forces has a lot of potential but in the end sega does not use that potential to its fullest. Forces also got bad reviews because of not much content and below average story. I know that transformed also contains sonic characters, but they should focus more on sonic and exclude sega characters for now since it is their main mascot. That's why I thought a sega dlc could be nice since those who like sega characters can also have fun. It is also a shame if a mascot's game does not shine while others do like total war shogun or even football manager. Since SONIC games are getting bad, that's why I thought that maybe a sequel to TSR which uses its full potential with more content would be useful. Also, I don't think teams would work for Sega characters as we have never seen any sega characters interact, so i thought that we can use sega dlc for single player modes and team modes will be for sonic characters. For me, TSR is 7.5/10. But if they add more content, more characters and courses, and of course proper team selection, then it might reach 9.5/10!

The biggest things I would suggest were more characters and tracks as you suggested.

More characters like the ones you stated and (I would hope to add the freedom fighters from SAtam, just because I wish they brought them back into a spin-off).

Maps based on a wider variety of locations, like perhaps one map for every sonic game.
EX: Sonic 1- Labryinth Zone, Sonic 2 - Hill top, Sonic 3- ICe Cap, and Knucles - Mushroom Hill ECT-. I feel like they drew most of their maps from post-Adventure 2 games and I'd like more classic maps.

Yeah. Honestly I did not even consider classic maps of now. Even they look like possibilities. Especially Ice Cap Zone, since that stage has its own skateboarding section.....

Heck, why not reimagine Twinkle Circuit as an actual kart racing track or even one of the bonus kart racing levels from SA2?
