sonic team racing stuttering
Sometimes the game stutters, I tried several things but so far nothing. I have 8GB of RAM, GeForce GTX 1060 3GB, AMD Ryzen 7 1700 Eight-Core Processor 3.00 GHz, Latest version of Windows 10.

I have the same problem. I get a micro-stutter about 3 times a race, which in a racing game is enough to completely put you off and lose the race.

GeForce GTX 1070 8GB (Laptop)
Intel i7-8750H 2.20Ghz
16GB RAM
Latest Windows 10 and drivers as of 1st July 2019

What is your refresh rate? According to https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Team_Sonic_Racing the game is currently intended to run 60fps and has both stutter and glitches when running above.

As for Mr. Bronze, make sure the game is set to run on the dedicated graphics as most GeForce laptoos have both the discrete GPU and the (slower)integrated Intel GPU.

Thanks for the reply, Crashed! I am definitely using the GeForce GPU, but your other suggestion got me interested.

I have a 160hz G-Sync display, so this might be the issue. However, there is no option in game to cap the frame rate at 60FPS.

I just tried enabling V-sync in game, but it just locks the frame rate to 160FPS

I did actually couple more tests with g-sync and caps, but overall the conclusion is the same with the video I linked in the article, majority of games logic is still running at 60 FPS regardless of how many frames it's actually pumping out.

Altough on top of this it's getting clearer that there's definitely some frame pacing issues going on especially the longer you play the game, so even capping the framerate is not perfect solution because sometimes those frames are served in a way that you get dublicates.

So this would actually have to be patched by the game devs to be fixed properly. Especially with epileptic car indicators and bugged items in the mix.

Vsync simply syncs the frames to match your refresh rate, so if you have 160Hz monitor, vsync should properly make the game give you 160 FPS.

If you click on "run the game at 60 FPS" on PCGW article you get to here: https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Glossary:Frame_rate_(FPS)#Frame_rate_capping

Thank you Mairo - this does resolve my problem. It's totally unacceptable that I have to fix this for myself and totally inconvenient that I have to find a solution outside of the game. I'm going to ask for a refund.

It also runs smooth at a locked 120hz with Vsync.

However, if it ever drops below 120 there does seem to be some stuttering. The good news is that this game never drops below 120 frames unless I run it in 4k.

Maybe it runs smooth at 120hz because it is a multiple of 60hz? They need to add "lock frame rate" as an option in the game.

I've already requested a refund now... let's see what happens. Disappointed.

Refund denied cos I played more than 2 hours. Fair enough. To be honest, I want the game - but I also want it to work properly!

I've troubleshooted some more and so far the best solution for me is to tell Windows my monitor is a 60hz display. Then my issues go away.

I raised the issue and the potential solution with SEGA support and got this in return:

Thank you for your feedback, your comments are very much appreciated by SEGA and we do take all feedback seriously!

At SEGA Support our main focus is on assisting with technical and activation related issues that are preventing people from playing our games.

We will add your feedback to our report.

Uhh... Isn't Sega only the publisher? I mean, I am sure they sent the report to Sumo but it looks like an automatic reply made by a bot. Not sure if it's a good or a bad thing in this case... Hmm.
Juke of Earl Jul 4, 2019 @ 4:50am
The publisher is almost always responsible for community management and customer support. It's one of the reasons to have a publisher!

From the Sumo Digital web page:

For technical support, please contact the publisher of the game that you need help with.

Sumo is not able to offer technical support or customer support services.

Hmm... That's odd alright. So they rely entirely on sega for the support. I hope they also work together with them for the actual game. Sega isn't usually a crap company. They did rather good games or like published good ones. (Not speaking of sonic team). Let's hope for support soon.

I feel ok about it. As you said, both Sumo and Sega are generally great at what they do. They've also worked a lot in the past. I'm going to stay optimistic for now and hope for the best.

If nothing happens, then we get a bit louder! Friendly, but louder.

Underlined part needs to be remembered by everyone. So many people think insults work...
