Well, if you have the retail version, you can play it.
If you bought it on Steam, you still can play it.
But if you want it NOW on Steam, well, good luck to you and your wallet, might cost you a bunch of $/€/£/...

But if you are only looking for info, on Steam, you'll only have the community hub :s

Hey, I have the game since 2011, and didn't play it since then as the game frightened me :D
Today I saw the old game, which gave me memories and well, wondered why it was removed from steam, I played it today again (Me and my friend almost pissed in our pants :S) and well, was awesome(Awesome: 100% frightning).

Not sure if anyone can tell you a 100% reliable source of what happen and why it is removed.

The only thing that matter is that you enjoy it :D

I really wish i could get it working. Tried at least 3 different PCs over the years. I really wanted to be able to play it with high fraemrates finally after all this time.

You can play in it but it takes hell of a lot of time to download and can fail multiple times, idk why.

The game removed was one of the best very slow shooters, with a great potential who should have develop a new genre by now. Bad public taste made the game hard to sell, if I am not mistaken the Russian company got discouraged so they announced that they would neglect the PC market from that point on. It is disturbing in my opinion the taste of contemporary commercial generations who would let game companies like Troika die -the guys responsible for The Temple of Elemental Evil, the best rpg game I have played, and other masterpieces. Some unhealthy optimists praise the bad taste of the lower class, the consumers, saying that now the options are more "diverse" and there are products for many tastes -no, they are not.

It was removed because of the very real tragedy that happened in the Arctic in the early 1980s that it was based off of. Where a ship and its crew mysteriously vanished and were last recorded in distress in the north pole at the late end of the Cold War. And because they took many of these ideas from the horrible incident and made a game off of it, it was removed and quickly confiscated because the deaths of all of those on board were never truly accounted for. The creators based all their game ideas off the very lucid events that took their lives. That is why it is but a ghost game on Steam now.

Cool stories in here, very cool.

But y'all are wrong. It was due to legal troubles between the publisher and the developer. Most likely some conflict over the ip. Shortly after that the dev studio split up so that was the end of Cryostasis.

Here is some copypasta:

Cryostasis was originally released in February, 2009 and was only added to Steam in 2012, and was then removed less than a year later. While there was no announcement from Steam, nor the Developer, nor the Publisher, community response suggests it was removed after a dispute to the rights between the Publisher (1C) and Developers (Action Forms). When you consider that Action Forms (Cryostasis' developers) split/disbanded into two new developer groups[carnivores.wikia.com]- Tatem Games and Beatshapers and that 1C removed the game from all storefronts, presumably shortly after that split, it's very likely that they simply lost the IP rights.

This means that there's no guarantee or reason to believe it will return to Steam.

Also a cool story but the steam sale date is wrong. And if that info is off the rest becomes suspect as well.

In my steam library says I bought the game on 3/24/2010.

EDIT: The last time it was in a steam sale 75% off was 2012 though.

This sounds nonsense. There are many games out based on tragedies, war etc. Thats not it.

Anyway, too bad for them, Action Forms is a great game developer imo. I loved their game Vivisector: BW. Was my old favourite game, and ive been enjoying Cryostasis too, a great horror/action game it was. All respekt and kudos to the ukrainian dudes

It will ALWAYS be due to licensing.

Guys, hello, this is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ old and lmao
Cryostasis is a great game, but it makes me not be able to sleep at night, heh.

Anyways, for the discussion, I'm serious when saying that there is literally no point in keeping on going, it only goes into fighting, so if all of you may, please, just stop... ;-;

I've bought games on steam that have been taken off and I can't play them anymore. They've in effect taken my money for the game then stolen it from me. I might have to check if this is the case for Cryostasis as well.. God it infuriates me.

Haha no, this rarely if ever, happens at all. The game is in your library and I can see it, also there is a mouse icon next to your name denoting that you own the game. So no need to get angry at all :emofdr:

It happened with another game a few years ago called 'Shellshock 2'. I bought it before it was removed and it won't do anything.
