They shut down the servers for the standalone version, if you want to continue playing this mode you'll have to do it from the Hitman 2 main game.

Once you have installed Hitman fully, you will be able to get back in and play. Just can't play it while downloading and installing the full game.

If it's not supposed to be playable, then why is it A) a selectable option from the game menu, and B) automatically downloaded first?

I mean, I can still play the Sniper Challenge from Absolution still, but I can't play the one that I got and took time to download?

Well, that's where the I answer lays. In the full game sniper assassin wouldn't work because it was part of the install!
