survival tips for the struggling
install the game on SSD

start a new game
select the tek - he has +1 computers
put your first 5 points into computers, giving you 160% exp
choose morty as a pet if you like, he gives you another +10% exp

carry a backup rifle that can be repaired with simple parts - I recommend a 7 until you get dorb's rifle. dorb's is the best I have found that can be repaired with simple parts which you will always get on missions minor spoiler - don't give dorb his drink until after you tell the doctor he's fine... learn from my mistakes

store your items in the military base, not in the nest. the nest is buggy.

your main melee weapon can be anything - get the best weapon you can repair with whatever metal you're finding a lot of .

most people take a couple hits to kill unless they are in heavy armor. for fighting armored opponents I recommend a cleaver - it can be repaired with rusty metal and has good armor piercing - great for fighting the occasional power armor

don't get suckered into carrying melee weapons that require steel plates to repair until you can manufacture steel plates

maintain your weapons - they shoot better and last longer if you take care of them

you need 1 engineering to heal morty, plan on that - he also gives you +1 so that's 2, which is enough for most everything you care about at first

lashta is an utter beast. level her up and keep her with you

get the 2 sidekicks perk. the passives alone far outweigh the cost.

save your game in slot 10 whenever you are back in the nest, never overwrite that with any other save

save your game in slot 9 whenever you're in a major area that is not the raven's nest

use slots 1-3 for in-mission trash always checkpoint your save in slot 10

kill this guy. he sometimes has a really nice weapon :

I carry steel weapons all game because they are far superior in damage then usual ones, you can repair them with metal from dismantling scalpels and other surgery equipment - you have ton of useless money anyway so you can buy all scalpels you see from 3 doctors

5 points in computers is useless because they will never payoff (i.e. you need 6 additional levels for payoff, but from my experience you'll have at most 4 extra levels from tek)

Best class is helot for sure, you got extra perk in the very beginning in D-106 + you able to craft picklocks from start

All great points. I now have the ability to have Morty or Lashta as companions. Have not chosen either yet as my initial companion has been Gosp and he's pretty handy with a machine gun. Not sure what + or - Morty or Lashta bring to the party as companions as I've been pretty happy with Gosp. I'm playing a Jaeger.
