GH Performance on average hardware - Unity
I have a couple Unity games. Phoenix Point is similar and has decent performance hovering 50-60FPS on "Good" video settings, 2 notches from Ultra. It's not perfect, but it's OK. Can't expect 2020 performance from 2017 hardware, I understand.

Gloomhaven looks good, but there really is no reason for it to chug around 40FPS on older top of the line hardware while nothing is happening on screen at the lowest setting. I'm using "Prefer maximum performance" and the latest drivers. No bells and whistles, not even FXAA.

4K Resolution on GF1080/i5-7600, first Guildmaster stage. Idle.
Fastest: 40-45 FPS
Fantastic: 30-35 FPS

1080 Resolution (It won't even save, exit then relaunch the game is back in 4K)
Fastest: 40 FPS
Fantastic: 32 FPS

It's actually SLOWER on LOWER resolution. I can't explain why.

Now when you switch to borderless 1080, it looks washed out and not scaled properly but the FPS jumps up drastically. It hits my 60 FPS cap so it's probably broken entirely. 4K borderless is just as bad as full screen and has no effect.

These stats make no sense. The game is misbehaving.

The thing is that it's not nearly finished yet. Typical procedure for working on a game is to work on optimization last, unless the performance issues are fairly widespread. And these aren't, though they do exist:

As I stated there, I'm running on a GTX 970, and it's performing great. The people who are having issues are often having them on much higher spec hardware than those that aren't. Some combinations of things is causing this misbehavior, and they probably won't fix it until much closer to release.

Thanks for the link. I am experiencing everything the other users are, but not you. Something is definitely up with Unity. My guess if you run fast is that the game isn't even attempting whatever it is that causes the slowdowns for me, which is the only explanation I can see. I don't think 10XX has any stuff 9XX supports more, it doesn't have Ray Tracing and such they're not very different just a lot faster. I'm stumped to be honest. I'll monitor the other thread, thanks!

Great, now I'm worried. This is running fine, unless I open Firefox which drags the game slightly, and I'm running on a PC I wasn't sure would even run the game. And I'm looking to buy a $1000 PC that's an i7 with a 6GB GeForce 16xx video card. May need to punt and stick on the AMD side of things.

To be clear (as I stated in the other thread), I run it on the highest setting on a GTX 970 with no slowdown.

I'm about to have a new system set up with a 3060 Ti to try it on.

I find your claim hard to believe. Id love video capture of that. 60 fps 4k on a 9XX seems impossible to me.

I never claimed 4k, though. I pointed you to the other thread, where I was getting better performance on higher resolution than another user running a 1080ti. The point I was trying to make was that it was doing some wonky stuff that didn't seem to directly relate to "worse system = worse performance."

It's still counterintuitive to me how drastic the difference is between 2 generations of cards. Also I don't get any performance changes between 4K and 1080, try it yourself to see I'm curious. Not saying you're lying, I'm saying this is mystical arcane stuff.

I tried a whole bunch of different settings when I was researching for that other thread, and I had similar results. I would get worse results at lower settings sometimes. And sometimes it'd run the GPU at 100%, sometimes it wouldn't. And it would do it sometimes at the World Map, sometimes not. It was incredibly inconsistent. Which goes back to what I was saying about it not being optimized.

I do Unity programming (VR) for a living, though admittedly our company only switched to that so I won't talk like I'm a pro. But I know we've hit various things that were performance traps. We'd often not worry about them unless they were egregious, because we were still working on trying to program the actual features of the software. As such, we let some extremely shoddy code go.

One note, though. I did go back and turn on the steam FPS counter, which I meant to do before. I can verify that I AM only getting 30fps (at 2560 x 1600), even with the game set to 60fps. So I was wrong about "no performance impact". Though I can say that the game seems to be running very, very smoothly. But even when I cranked the graphics settings way down, it still seemed to always max out at 30fps.

After work, I'm going to take this 3060 Ti for a spin and see what I get from it.

Thanks for the feedback. Unity doesn't suck, but im an Unreal engine guy. My xcom products work very smoothly and it's not even a newer engine (i think they are up to 5 now? Xcom is 3?). Hoping release is more optimized.

I did do a bit of programming and like UE much better. It just made much more sense. Unity is pretty cobbled together and downright goofy at time. It makes development more a pain when it shouldn't be. But UE doesn't support mobile/VR as well as Unity, so Unity it is. *sigh*

Notebook user here with a Nvidia RTX3000 (similar to 2060 in performance). My performance on the highest settings is pretty consistently at 60fps with full Vsync turned on. Occasionally I'm dropping to single digit numbers (e.g. opened a door with a lot of enemies on a wood map once) which is then "fixed" by changing to the lowest graphics setting and going into the 30fps range again.
I can also consistently halve my fps by pressing TAB for highlighting objects (min graphics setting means only going down to 40 from 60).

Hi, have anyone here had any feedback? This game is unplayable on a very high end pc with a rtx 3090, even if i set it to the lowest graphics settings I can barely even click around in the menu? Is there any fix coming for this?
