This is the way. The old version of the game was amazing. The new version might be playable once they fix the current mess.
Thanks for sharing, I did see this above.
Ugh, I'm sorry to hear that. This is a bit of what I'm worried about.
If the have a decent track record of fixing things then I'll dive in now, just been burned too many times.
I haven't tried this myself yet, but see bottom of this post:

First, digitial GH is not even the most recent version of GH now. CG will roll out a new "updated" version in a bit. And digital gloomhaven will likely not update itself. So, once this new game hits, this versions price will plument like a rock.
Second, while there are performance improvements, their newest patch appears to have caused numerous problems. I'd give the new Devs time to fix it. OR - wait - and see if they dont. In that case, due to lack of support, I'd wouldn't buy the game at all.
Third and finally, the are trying to co launch this on consoles. The marketplace there is extremely competitive. So if you have the option to do so, I'd say wait until they offer a serious price discount there. It should happen in about 6 months.
I am afraid this is all close to the mark but in each case, not quite correct.
The above is referring to either the 2nd revision of Gloomhaven or Frosthaven physical boardgames but here is no other Gloomhaven digital in current development at this time and so if you are waiting for a 2nd revision digital or Frosthaven digital you will need to wait a very long time! the only exception is Tabletop Simulator which AFAIK will be getting a FH version with the approval of the IPs creator.
This is true but the Devs have provided the option to roll back to the pre latest patch version which removes the issues that the mentioned patch causes. They are also releasing hotfixes to try and fix the patch they released and so between fixes and being able to play the pre latest broken patch version - this is now a non-issue.
This was released on consoles on the 18th - 4 days ago - not in about 6 months. The patch mentioned above was the console release patch! The game is cross platform and so you can buy on whatever platform you like the most! PC is generally the best and the game is often on large discounts on Steam ALREADY. Much better discounts than you typically find on consoles which are usually a much higher prices release.
Steam price history can be looked up on the following site with this being the state page for Gloomhaven on Steam. If you scroll down the page you will find a graph showing the price over time!

You misunderstand.
Yes, the second edition for GH is the tabletop version. But, there are SO MANY changes, its practially a new game. The developers are not even suggesting old players of GH get some kind of update pack. There is just so much new. This does not matter. It will cause this digital GH version's cost to fall. More people will just wait to play the newest edition. Even if it's not coming. Why pay for a game - for full price - that you know is already outdated? How many people will wait? IDK. But it will effect sales for sure.
The bug fixing is not a minor issue to the causal fan. These players will not want to dig around in files to manually move files. You underestimate the number of people who will shy away from this product due to the game crashes, errors and bugs. Word of mouth matters alot to game sales.
And finnally, I meant that the game price will go down, or have a deal in 6 months, on consoles. Its going to happen at some point in the next year.
So again, OP, I say wait. 6 - 12 months, this game might only cost you 10$ on consoles or even here on steam. And you avoid the bugs, crashes and such. And maybe you learn about how well this game will run and how well it will be maintained.
Hey - its not going anywhere. Waiting 6 months isn't a big deal.
And if you really want to play a turn based squad game, go play XCOM. Thats the game of the year some many years back.
DO NOT BUY UNTIL GAME IS FIXED
40% off a game you can't play isn't a good deal. You only give them an interest free business loan so they can pay their staff to fix a game that worked fine until they broke it.
