Campaign:
Yes, you will retire when the goals are met

Guildmaster mode: no retirements in this roguelike mode
What's the problem? If you're really enjoying a class, you can just choose it again.
you can keep enhancements from pre-retirement too, just make sure to check campaign settings
You pick a goal that you don't have to finish. Like "donate 120 coins to the Temple of the Great Oak" or "kill X of mob type "name".

Hello, I'm so stupid, I forgot to mark "permanent enhancement" at the start of the campaign, so I'm stuck forever? (I'm to far to start again)

Another question: when I can retire a character, as soon as I am back in Gloomhave,, game don't let me the choice, your first mandatory action is to retire... you can't for example sell objects to put enhancements just before retirement ( in the case of permanent enhancements of course). It's a bug? In the board game, you can delay the retirement action

If you're not house ruling it, in the board game you're required to announce retirement as soon as you next return to Gloomhaven. You should still be able to perform actions in the city, but officially you can't leave if your personal quest is fulfilled.
