is there a way to play a 2 player, 2 character game?
I am trying to play multiplayer with a friend but we only want to play one character each but when I'm hosting a game, it forces us to play with 4 characters total. Is there a way to remove the 2 other slots??

You can free up a character slot by picking the slot, and then picking whichever character happens to be in that slot. This will clear out the space in your roster.

That removes the character, leaving an empty slot. In multiplayer, all slots must be filled before starting the scenario. Is there a way to delete the actual slot so there are just 2?

You only need two slots filled - any two slots - in order to start a scenario.

When I hosted, I had three slots assigned to myself, and 1 slot assigned to another player, We each had one slot filled with a single character each.
I was able to launch the scenario, but my other player got an error that all slots had to be filled before launching.

We took turns hosting, continued to run into this issue and was never able to start the scenario.

Is there something I am missing?

EDIT2: Slight spoiler warning on the video as it does show some of the characters that can be unlocked. It's not much but figured I'd include this nonetheless.

Must be, I've played both solo as 2 characters, with a friend with one each and two friends with one each.
Quickly loaded up a save and just recorded this to narrow it down for us without confusion. Assume you're doing the same thing? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xboaCiEMxQ

Granted I've never hosted myself, but we've not had this issue. Will try and host a game and see if there's something I'm missing.

EDIT: See that as the host I can't try much without someone else in my session sadly.

That's odd, I've never had any problems playing two people with only one character each. Never even encountered a situation where we had to figure out anything. Just left two slots open and started the scenario, exactly as when you play offline.

This is strange indeed. I will try again hoping it was just a server issue or maybe I need an update? I appreciate video Cranor as it does confirm that 2 players is possible and thanks to everyone else for confirming that as well. Will try again later and see what happens.

Hey, sorry for bumping this old post, but did you ever find a way of playing with 2 characters? I'm struggling with the same thing

Are you absolutely certain that all the empty slots are assigned to the host, rather than one assigned to the other player? There should be a text in the top right corner telling you what the problem is.
