Have any of the recent co-op problems been fixed?
I picked this up on a recent sale at the recommendation of a friend, but I'm primarily only interested in starting the game as co-op at least. A brief dive through the discussion boards and I've seen people for weeks stating that the game is currently an unplayable, unstable, annoying mess to maintain any consistent playthroughs on multiplayer due to recent patches.

Has any of that been smoothed out, or are people still having constant headaches dealing with that hassle?

I can only speak for myself but I have not had any issues. I play a three player game, each player in a different country, and we have had NO problems in Guildmaster co-op play.
Multiplayer issues definitely are not resolved. We de-sync or crash every scenario, sometimes multiple times (on open beta).
We have massive issues with desync and having to restart everyone but it seems to be compounded by the fact that two of our four person party are playing from the same house. The two of us get desynced almost every quest.
Desync issues are everywhere; players getting repeatedly kicked; game state deviations (one player saw a flame demon spawn, the rest of us see an earth demon spawn); different players seeing different amounts of gold, people unable to select cards and confirm they are ready for the round ... the list goes on ... the proliferation of problems demonstrates a significant backslide into quality at a time where all these added tilesets are applauded. Perhaps we can get a stable game and then worry about the ornaments you hang on it?
Ours was ♥♥♥♥♥♥ today too. We got 4 desyncs in a row. Makes it almost unplayable with someone having to re-load in
We had a session without a itch tonight.
Just had a new patch, keen to hear if this fixes things for people :eyes:
I think the idea that the desync problem is related somehow to hardware (un)optimization and/or overheating needs further scrutiny.

Tonight our four player party attempted to play for about two hours. We've had a long history of struggles with co-op play over the last months (but we keep hammering away because we can't meet in person to play OG Gloomhaven due to COVID restrictions).

For reference:

  • Player 1 plays on an older gaming desktop
  • Player 2 plays on a newer gaming desktop
  • Player 3 plays on a 2019 Microsoft Surface
  • Player 4 plays on a ~2017 HP Pavilion Laptop

Our session started fine. However by about the halfway mark of the first dungeon, Player 4, the one who ALWAYS has connection problems, started disconnecting nearly constantly. This is pretty consistent with our usual experience.

This time though, as an experiment, Players 1-3 continued to play the dungeon while Player 4 sat out and watched in Discord. For the remainder of the dungeon (which took about 35 minutes), Players 1-3 had no issues whatsoever.

From our discussion on the matter, its seems that Player 4's relatively underpowered and poorly ventilated laptop was the thing that made them stand out from the rest of the group. For what it's worth, until one of the recent updates, the game made the fans in Player 1's PC sound like a jet engine. Player 4 also reported that the fans in their computer get extremely loud while playing.

I would be interested if other groups that are experiencing this issue do a quick hardware survey amongst their members to see if maybe the pattern of older/poorly cooled PCs leading to disconnects stands up. It might explain why so many people seem to have issues while others report next to no problems.
Flawless 3hrs of play today! So happy to be able to play again with my friend after a long hiatus.
sometimes its ok but recently its almost seemed worse for our group. I really hope they stop making new content and fix the stability issues first, its becoming really frustrating and makes me want to not play anymore
trying to play with 2 friends, almost every game without fail has either given us an error and dc'd us or one person will go but the other 2 are still waiting for the player who just did their turn to do their turn. So incredibly stupid. FIX YOUR F***ing issues, this is meant mostly as a multiplayer game.
Tried playing last night with 3 friends we had to restart several ( about 5-7 times) times because of the same desync issues thats been there for months. Honestly just fix the desync issue before adding more content. K thx bye :)

Well said, its not just this dev company either. So many add new content when massive issues exist and continue to exist with their initial / base game. I am looking at you as well Ark but this is a serious problem for Gloomhaven, they need to fix the connection issues asap or risk losing a ton of support of people who will tell their friends don't buy the game, WE CAN'T PLAY IT TOGETHER.

Its also really sad how many companies are doing early access. Early access is supposed to be for companies to get feedback from players for a game they are working on but so many companies are doing everything BUT listening to their players.

I will only speak for myself but I think ZeroCool and I are on the same page on this. Make the game work, address the connection issues, the desyc, and any over game breaking problems BEFORE you add new content. I believe most players would prefer that but I will only speak for myself

Lastly, I know they say people/companies should be able to walk and chew gum at the same time.... DON'T. FIX THE ERRORS.

I'm a developer myself (not a game dev though) but i would always make sure my code runs as bug free as possible before adding new features / complexity. Adding content adds complexity, making debugging more difficult and usually causes new issues. That should never be priority especially if bugs that effect the core functionality of your product (in this case the multiplayer functionality) are still causing issues. Without it there is no game. So i truly hope they have it as a top priority. I do agree that you can do more than one thing. It's kinda the whole point of agile development. It's just a matter of priority, and time ofc. All the best / Dade
