IMO I try to not use any burn cards until half way through the adventure. Using these too early will severely hurt you in the longer run.
I am / was new when I picked the game up. Some cards have a little symbol in the lower right corner (of the top or bottom half). This means the card will be permanently burned for that "dungeon". Apparently there are cards that will permanently burn for a whole campaign, but I haven't seen these yet. To get a better idea of what I'm talking about hit ESC, How To Play, Cards, Discarded and Burned. You may also want to read the bit about Damage and Exhaustion.
So yeah, the whole "mechanic" of the game is to balance what cards you use and when, and when to use those abilities which burn. I typically wait until the final room to use most of these, and even then wait until I'm certain I can clear the enemies.
Sometimes is just a race against the game, running to the objective so you don't exhaust your cards. Its also dangerous cause many monsters can kill you, but I hope you get the idea of what I am trying to say. In this game you should not chill and go slow, passing or wasting turns, its more like a min/max-optimizer kind of game, depending on your hand of course.
The more you know the character and his deck, the more you will play because you will be able to predict what happens next turns.
- Do not use ANY burn abilities (abilities with the little flame in the lower right)
- You can use a generic melee attack 2 on every card, click the attack icon on the middle left.
- You can use a generic move 2 on every card, click the move icon on the middle right.
- Once you have used all your cards, perform a Long Rest. Long Rest will ask you to pick a card to remove, and then return all your other cards to your hand.
- Keep doing this until all is dead.
You should get about 20 rounds before you run out of cards this way.
Then, learn how to manage your burn(Lost) cards as you progress.
And if possible dont play spellweaver for now :-)

You will notice that the power of these cards are often much stronger than regular abilities.
Note that a long rest will save you playing 2 cards, and you will be able to use all of your items again.
Play the card abilities that burn towards the end of the level.
