Can I use Jaws of the lion characters in normal Gloomhaven

Can I buy DLC and use new characters in co-op if my friends don't have DLC?Only basic gloomhaven?

if you add the DLC to a campaign for others to join they will have to have the DLC also.

And if my friend is host and don't have JoTL I can't use JoTL characters because he need to have DLC too?

correct. if host doesn't have it none of the DLC content will be in the campaign
