Sucks that Epic doesn't have a forum, and it's great you can get help from this community. I just dread all the negative posts we're going to see on Steam because Epic has problems (e.g., language packs, launching, difficulty, etc.). Good times! :)
the steam version does not involve a browser at all. So, we are ill equipped to trouble shoot the issue.
You have to switch to the browser to authenticate with the Epic Store and its DRM.
You can apparently switch to the browser if you launch the game in the Deck desktop mode.
Note that you're acting like an ass (British sense; a stubborn donkey) to people helping you sort out issues on a game version they don't have running on a system they don't own. Yet we're trying. Lean some manners, please.

Note - If you usually signin to Epic via your Google/Facebook login you may need to force a password reset for your Epic account first and set a regular password - the pop-up login screen for Gloomhaven doesn't seem to like non-standard login (despite offering the full range of options)
Cool story bro
Also don't have Steam and Epic GH launched at the same time or at least make sure only one is launched, check your background processes, else you'll crash the game during the initial loading screen.
