Any way to increase your max cards per character, ingame or mod
Hi, i enjoy the game from the few hours i played, will definately be fun once i get better at it, however if i had this as a board game i think i would def house rules the held cards a bit, maybe add one more card every 2 levels or so?

You would completely destroy the balance of many classes and scenarios by doing so.
Always make sure you fully understand a game and its design decisions before rushing to houserules.

Yeah. We play the game at highest difficulty setting and it still is quite easy. Extra cards would break the game!

Although no character actually gains hand size in the game, you'll run into items that accomplish a similar goal, and certain hero classes also have cards that accomplish a similar goal.

But the main thing is not to burn cards too early. Your hand size will feel a lot bigger that way.

The classes are designed around there hand size...and how many turns it takes till they are exhausted. This adds a lot of strategy to the game. You can't just take your time in a dungeon. The Spell Weaver for example has a card in there hand that brings all burned cards back into your hand. SO her hand size is deceiving. This is completelly how the class is designed and totally changes her strategy to a class that prefers to burn cards the first time you use them quickly because they are effectively use twice cards.

You should be able to adjust hand size with modding - from what I can tell in the modding documentation, hand size is represented by "NumberAbilityCardsInBattle" and can be adjusted.

You can't make hand size variable (e.g. it cannot increase as you level), but you can increase the base value.

You can't add cards that don't exist...There are 8 Spellweaver Cards a 9th card does not exist.

So? She has 11 cards she can put in her deck at level 1. Changing the handsize to 9 would just mean she can take 9 of them instead of 8 of them.

Edit: Are you maybe forgetting about X cards? Each character has 3 additional level 1 cards they can pick from, so as long as you don't make their hand size more than 3 higher than base, there shouldn't be any issues.

so add more powerful cards.and make her able to play longer. That would totally break the game. Easyville. Why even play it. The game does have an easy mode. This would be cake walk mode.. People who do that kind of stuff certainly can't claim they beat the actual game. Not to mention the game uses 2 cards a turn..not 1. adding 1 would not give you and extra turn. Well I guess it would over 2 rest cycles. But it would allow you to possibly burn 1 card earlier also.

I'm just answering OP's question. I don't care how other people play the game and have no intention of policing them on it. Why should I care how other people play their own games on their own time?

I'm pretty sure you should be able to mod the characters to increase their hand size. Probably you could also create brand new cards.

Like most of the other replies, however, I would suggest this is a bad idea. The desperation of trying to finish the scenario as your number of cards constantly dwindles is actually a huge part of game's feel. Without that, pretty much every scenario would just be a walkover that would get pretty boring. But it's your game; you can choose to play it however you want to play it.

If you're having a hard time with Gloomhaven, you have an issue with either your team composition (you need damage mitigation, not just healing) or your strategic approach. Don't burn cards unless the situation really calls for it (or you're at the end of a scenario and doing it for XP). Use your Long (and Short) Rests wisely to pace yourself through rooms.

See this as an opportunity to level up your gaming prowess. House rules on a game like this are just a silent admittance of not being good at the game.
