At first level, he has 2 low initiative cards with an enhancement slot for easy Strengthen use. Bottom action strengthens are great because they'll give advantage on your top action as well as any actions you take on your next turn.
3 perks that allow items to be refreshed. This can include consumed items, so he can keep chugging stamina potions to help accommodate the lower hand size. This is compounded by cards like Catastrophic Bomb which allows a huge number of attack cards to be drawn.
He has high hp combined with good mobility. Most tank-like classes aren't very mobile, but he has plenty of options for high movement (especially since he can refresh boots more often than others).
Has access to 2 low initiative bottoms that move and stun/disarm a target.
A : Support class
or
B : Damage dealer
He can be amazing at both, think at level 6? iirc he gets a perma buff card that allows anyone adjacent to him to add 1 target to ranged attack cards, and trust me, there are some uber powerful ranged characters being able to add 1 target may not seem much, but for powerful ranged damage dealers its effectively a 100% damage increase.
Or you take the other skill that allows constant refreshing of spent items, he kinda does it all.
Where you are in the campaign will influence how OP a character is, Mindthief is "OP" at the beginning of the game but gets worse and worse as the game goes on, Quartermaster is average in the early game but as you get more items and money for enchantments he is broken.
I just did - and holy mackerel! That effect on a non-loss card?!
What would you recommend as the best role for him? Ranged damage? Melee damage? Tank?
I kind of want the support role to be filled by either a Soothsinger or a Sawbones though. If you opt for damage, is melee or ranged better?
I am at Prosperity 4. Is this sufficient to get a good use out of Quartermaster?
Also, explain why Mindthief is worse in later game? Does he get bad level-up cards? Or does one of his key mechanic get obsoleted later - just like healing for Tinkerer?
You can still infinite turn, just takes more setup. You can still one man clear most dungeons, just takes more clicks and higher level.
Yeah, it seems like we are guinea pigs for future nerfs that may be implemented on tabletop. Just WTF.
Seriously, get a grip; and stop harassing me. First, plenty of other people are posting spoilers - and even on the title itself. (See numerous thread about scenario x bugged; or later unlockable item y not working properly.) I don't see you harassing them. Second, I didn't know even saying the name of a class itself is "spoiling." Just look up the classes in the Wiki - or any Gloomhaven reference.
One more peep from you, I will just put you on ignore.
The place is littered with people advising new players to read character guides, skill guides, equipment guides, mission guides, links to the campaign book.
gtfo with please use spoilers, its not new and hasn't been for a long time.
Saying the class name Beast Tyrant tells me nothing about background, race, story or mechanics, saying its codename two minis actually conveys something about the game I otherwise wouldn't have known.
