OP: It's a game that can be really difficult if you're approaching it the wrong way. It's hard to know what you might be doing wrong. Are you using a lot of abilities that lose the card (rather than discard it)? Unless you can wipe out a whole lot of early enemies, it's best to hold onto those until near the end of a scenario.
What exactly is going wrong for you?
But I would say there is probably some better strategy the two of you could be using. Maybe others could recommend a good tutorial.
My brother and I started on normal and are having no trouble on a 2 player game. Is normal supposed to be hard?
No. Normal is supposed to be normal. It can be hard for people before they get how the flow of the combat should work.
"Warding Strength" is a good bottom effect to use if he plans to go for the above combo next giving more shields with EXP. Trample is my usual go to for multiple hits as you can combine it with your boots to hit 5 enemies (assuming they are lined up) and land to strike one more, stunning them too if you give him the warhammer. Assuming they are not piercing, most times I find myself only taking 0s and 1s.
I would play around with which characters work together and figure that out. Let me know if you want to talk more about it.

Yea I thought normal was just the boardgames experience with the other difficulty levels added for the digital game to change it up a bit, ill switch it to easy the next time we play. I think its the 3rd encounter we tried and after we clear the first 4 enemies which is easy, we then have to approach a door with like 6 guys inside. We just can't handle those guys.
This is where positioning and having you both take some damage helps. Also utalize a long rest to get a little healing and get those item refreshes comes in handy before you take on the final room.

We restarted a game and just grinded the Berserker and Nightshroud class and are plowing through it pretty easily. We started with tinker and mindtheif and just got destroyed. We looked up some tier lists and found out that some classes are really good in 4s but trash in 2s and really enjoy the game now after playing top tier classes and now understand how the game works
well technically hard is the normal boardgame experience if you are playing solo then normal is the standard experience.
