Never played the Gloomhaven board game will I like this?

I like rpgs like Divinity Original Sins and card games like Slay the Spire and Monster Train.Is it likely that I will like this game?

I think so, having played Original Sin. It's not exactly the same type of game, but if you like this one you must like Gloomhaven. Be careful, it's also a game in which you sometimes (often?) have to take your time to think, and it can be quite difficult if you don't, even in normal difficulty.
Watch some newer Let's Play and you will know.

Ive never played the games you listed, but I have put in many hours on the board game. It is my all time favorite board game, even over classics like Talisman. I find playing the board game to be more fun only because I play with friends. I fully expect the digital version to rock just as hard once they implement being able to play with your friends.

This isn't a CRPG. It's a turn based tactical card game. The NPCs you see are just visual representations of the combat. You're not exploring dungeons and the world per se. You travel from a place to a dungeon and combat begins. It's complex and most certainly not everyone's cup of tea. Watch some gameplay vids on YT.

The world design is fantasy and has all the standard CRPG elements of monsters, look, gear, etc. but if you're looking for an actual CRPG this ain't it. Check out Zoria. It's not out yet but it has a demo and it's a CRPG-lite coming out this Fall.

Honestly, if you've never played Gloomhaven before I wouldn't recommend this Early Access game as your first experience. I'd suggest going to Target, picking up Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion, and learning to play it with some of your friends.

If you don't have any friends interested in a board game, then maybe this version is your best bet. Still, I'd wait a bit for them to polish it a bit more and add more content before diving in for your first Gloomhaven experience.

This game is definitely NOT like Slay the Spire or Monster Train. If you are looking for an EA game like that, you might want to look at 'Knock of the coffin lid. Nor is it like Divinity. That's a full-blown RPG.

Will you like this game though? You might as you like fantasy based games of differing genres so why not this too? It's different. I think it's a very good game and you're far more likely to appreciate it if you are not a fan of the board game. They seem to be the folks most disappointed with the game as it stands at the moment.

Why not watch some Youtube coverage and see if you like it. ;)
