Gloomhaven FAQ
Hello fellow mercenaries!

You'll find below all the questions we've been asked about the digital edition of Gloomhaven since the early access starts.
This post aims to gather all the recurring questions asked about the game. It will obviously be regularly updated, so stay tuned!

Through which stores is Gloomhaven available? What platforms are you planning on bringing Gloomhaven to?
Gloomhaven is available on Steam for PC. We are investigating other potential platforms that we can launch Gloomhaven to, but have nothing to announce at this time.

What about localization to other languages?
The game will be available in English during the Early Access and other languages may be added at a later date.

Is the gameplay the same as the tabletop game?
We are working closely with Isaac Childres to offer an excellent adaptation of the board game the fans will love, and that those new to Gloomhaven will crave even more! During the Early Access you will enjoy a brand new style of play: the roguelike mode we have created called "Adventure Mode". This digital exclusive mode covers both combat and exploration. The full board game experience will be available at full release, including the original board game Campaign and multiplayer coop.

Gameplay differences specific to the video game have all been vetted by Isaac Childres and have been implemented because they are necessary for an optimal digital experience.

Among the few differences...
The durability of the items: you can see this on the top right corner of item cards. Some of them have the infinity symbol. Please note that the basic equipment of your mercenaries is always infinite.

The ability cards: mercenaries begin with a deck which will evolve depending on the levels and experience they get. Whenever a mercenary reaches a new level, he/she can pick a new card from a selection of three.

The inventory: it will be common to all the characters in the digital version while it is individual in the physical version.

Disarmament: if an archer is disarmed they will consider themselves disarmed and retreat. In the physical version, they do not consider themselves as unarmed and move in for close range combat.

Short Rest and Long Rest: in the physical version Short Rest is made at the end of the turn and Long Rest during the card selection phase. In the digital version it clearly makes more sense to do both at the beginning of the turn as there will be no situation in which you perform both ... which is the case!

Is there a multiplayer option?
We will be adding a multiplayer coop mode that will allow you to play online with friends. While this is not available in the game for the launch of Early Access, it will be implemented before we reach the full release of Gloomhaven.

In collaboration with Isaac, we decided to first consolidate the single-player experience and the content, by developing the Adventure mode and its roguelike mechanics. Multiplayer involves specific development that will leverage content and mechanics from single-player, and we chose a gradual, step-by-step approach, in order to be able to deliver the best experience possible.

Why is the game so difficult to understand? Who are you targeting with such a complex game? Is this a game just for the Gloomhaven board game fans?
We did our best to offer the best possible digital Gloomhaven experience, however this is (only) the start of the Early Access. This is just the beginning of a journey, hand in hand with the Gloomhaven community, and not the final product.

At the start of the Early Access, the initial experience will appeal mostly to players with a solid Tactical RPG experience or familiar with the original board game. We feel that those with a lighter Tactical background could benefit from waiting until we implement a more beginner-friendly onboarding experience (ETA October).

The goal is to deliver the ultimate Tactical RPG experience at full release, a digital Gloomhaven expanding and respecting the board game masterpiece. An improved onboarding process which will allow more and more people to discover and enjoy the depth of Gloomhaven’s gameplay, without compromising the original experience and its delicate balance. A difficult task but difficulty does not scare hardcore Gloomhaven fans like ourselves!

To ensure players are able to experience the unforgiving world of Gloomhaven, we’ve created 3 difficulty levels (Easy, Hard, Insane), delivering an optimal experience for beginners while allowing experts play with the same level of difficulty as the board game.

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?
During Early Access we will be adding more playable characters, items, enemies, bosses and environments to our Adventure Mode, alongside features such as Character Perks and Ability Enhancements. We will essentially bring all the content from the original board game — and even more with digital exclusive enemies and bosses.

Before the full release we will also be adding the highly anticipated and requested multiplayer coop mode.
At full launch, we will deliver the complete board game campaign experience to the digital edition.

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?
Currently we are planning to be in Early Access for at least 9-12 months as we want to work side by side with the community to create more new features and unique content, including that which doesn’t already exist within the board game.

What are the minimum specifications required to play Gloomhaven?
OS: Windows 7 (64 bit required)
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E4700 2.6 GHz
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 1GB
DirectX: Version 10
Storage: 4 GB available space

Will the game have lootboxes or DLCS?
We want to reassure you that the game will never have lootboxes or a pay to win spirit!
On top of that, the entire content of the boardgame (all characters classes, campain, coop,...) will be entirely included in the game without any additional cost or DLC. We might do DLC's in the future but that is not in our current scope of work nor planned for early access.

When is the next update planned?
You will find our dev roadmap here: https://steamcommunity.com/games/780290/announcements/detail/1610515909003153420

Are there any achievements?
There are no achievements... yet!

I finished killing all the enemies in all of the available rooms, but the game wouldn't recognize all the enemies were killed.
Make sure that there is no hidden door and that you have finished the entire round! The Scenario will not complete until you have finished the entire round, including all character turns.

The traps are not visible enough!
You can highlight all enemies and traps by holding your tab key.

During a dungeon, how do I know that my progression is saved?
During a dungeon, saves are made at the beginning of each round.

Will the Full game be priced differently to the Early Access?
We will increase the price of the game at full launch as we will offer more features and the campaign. Those who purchased during Early Access will not be charged extra at full release.

Does Gloomhaven support ultra wide resolutions?
Yes, it works fine with 3440*1440

Why was the Compendium removed?
It wasn't. We've simply updated the name to make it more simple to find; it's now called "How to Play".

Also, the price of the game during Early Access won’t increase due to the additional content added during development.

Now good luck in the dark dungeons of Gloomhaven...
