[Solution] No 3D acceleration in Windows 8+
In order to have the game use 3D acceleration natively without the files below, your display resolution must be equal to or above 1600x1024. If your monitor does not support such resolutions, read below:

The lack of proper hardware acceleration for DirectDraw in Windows 8 causes Bejeweled to only work in software mode saying that your graphics card is unsupported when you try to enable 3D acceleration. Here's how to make it work in Windows 8+:

1. Download the latest version of WineD3D from here[fdossena.com].
2. Unpack the following 3 files from the archive into the game's installation directory
- ddraw.dll
- libwine.dll
- wined3d.dll

Enjoy. :B1:

Since WineD3D is in active development, the latest version may contain bugs. In that case, older versions might work better for you depending on your card. For Nvidia users 1.7.52 was the stable release, AMD users reported 1.9.21 worked for them.

Files in the archive are compiled from the latest WineD3D DirectDraw Library. This is essentially a DirectDraw emulator that translates DirectDraw calls to OpenGL.

ProgramData is hidden by default. you need to tell explorer to show hidden files under "View > Show Hidden files"

If it still cannot be seen then you must also be able to view system files which is a little trickier to do so i'd google it if it's still hidden

The problem this solution solves is the grayed out 3D acceleration box. If your game doesn't run at all, it's a different issue (unless you mean it doesn't run only with those 3 files present). Try changing the game's language or this tweak, maybe.

I saw the Programs Data Folder which happen to be hidden, but there is no any Popcap folder. I forgot to add but I think my friend installed me a pirated version— not attached to Steam. But this version worked on my 32bit Win7 before. I'll try the tweak provided above. Thanks!

Hi,

I know this thread is old but I have the exact same problem with the origin version. The WineD3D solution didn't work.

OS: Windows 10 Pro x64
RAM: 8GB
CPU: Intel i7 7700HQ
GPU: AMD Radeon Rx 560 (max resolution 1920x1080)
computer: Lenovo LEGION Y520-IKBA

PLS help!

I'm not gonna bother fixing my resolution problem. I just set my laptop's resolution to lowest setting and make myself feel like I'm on my family's old desktop PC

Completely genius it worked for me!

  2. Unpack the following 4 files from the archive into the game's installation directory:
    • d3d11.dll
    • ddraw.dll
    • libwine.dll
    • wined3d.dll
✔️ Resolution - Ultra (1920x1200)

this fix has been around for the last decade and works without any issues at all.

Again, for users that have this problem, but the game isn't steam version, the dll files of wine must be placed in /programdata/popcap games/"game dir" (bejeweled2, bejeweled3, bejeweledtwist, etc), because (or) this files must be placed where popcapgame1.exe is created when the game is launched. With the newer versions of wine, only is necessary ddraw.dll and wined3d.dll.

At least for me the edited exe didn't work, and for me is more easy copy two dll in a folder, the wine dll's solution has been works for me since win8, and works with more games that only "bejeweleds"...

odd, I used it on a fresh installation of windows 10 about 2 months ago. works with no issues for me, i've been using it since windows 7, the computer I had at the time had a gpu driver update that caused the no hardware acceleration issue to appear. ever since then i've been using it.
